  • Mid infrared gas spectroscopy using efficient fiber laser driven photonic chip-based supercontinuum

    摘要: Directly accessing the middle infrared, the molecular functional group spectral region, via supercontinuum generation processes based on turn-key fiber lasers offers the undeniable advantage of simplicity and robustness. Recently, the assessment of the coherence of the mid-IR dispersive wave in silicon nitride (Si3N4) waveguides, pumped at telecom wavelength, established an important first step towards mid-IR frequency comb generation based on such compact systems. Yet, the spectral reach and efficiency still fall short for practical implementation. Here, we experimentally demonstrate that large cross-section Si3N4 waveguides pumped with 2 μm fs-fiber laser can reach the important spectroscopic spectral region in the 3–4 μm range, with up to 35% power conversion and milliwatt-level output powers. As a proof of principle, we use this source for detection of C2H2 by absorption spectroscopy. Such result makes these sources suitable candidate for compact, chip-integrated spectroscopic and sensing applications.

  • Pulse control in self-mode-locked 2.8???μm Er-doped fluoride fiber lasers

    摘要: In this work, it had been demonstrated that the Er doped fluoride fiber laser emitting at 2.8 μm could accomplish the dark pulse based on self-mode-locked (SML). And the different distances of external feedback were also investigated in experiment. It was found that signal-noise ratio (SNR) of fundamental cavity repetition rate was decreased with increasing the distance of feedback. It was not only caused by increasing the length of cavity, but also influenced by the interaction between inter-cavity and external cavity. The fundamental cavity repetition rate of SML 2.8 μm pulsed laser could be controlled by adjusting distance of external feedback.

  • Polarization-insensitive fiber-to-fiber gain of semiconductor optical amplifier using closely stacked InAs/GaAs quantum dots

    摘要: The gain characteristics of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) that contains forty layers of closely stacked InAs/GaAs quantum dots (QDs) were studied by employing a fiber-to-fiber measurement system. The fiber-to-fiber gain values obtained for transverse-electric (TE)- and transverse-magnetic (TM)-polarized optical input signals exhibited their maxima at a wavelength of 1100 nm, which corresponds to the excited state of the closely stacked QDs. In the wavelength range from 1060 to 1170 nm, the gain obtained for TE-polarized input signal was slightly higher than that for TM-polarized input signal and the absolute gain difference was less than 1 dB for an injection current of 80 mA. The small but non-zero difference of the gain reflects the polarization anisotropy of the optical gain provided by the closely stacked QDs. Our results suggest that closely stacked QDs are suitable for realizing polarization-insensitive SOA device with operation bandwidths of more than 100 nm.

  • Passively Q-switched 2.9 <i>μ</i> m Er:YAP single crystal laser using graphene saturable absorber

    摘要: A passively Q-switched 2.9 μm Er:yttrium aluminum perovskite (YAP) laser using a monolayer graphene saturable absorber (SA) was demonstrated in this research. Stable pulsed operation was performed with the shortest pulse duration of 460 ns and the highest repetition rate of 114 kHz. This is the first demonstration of a passively Q-switched mid-infrared (mid-IR) Er:YAP pulse modulated by graphene SA. In Q-switched operation, the maximum pulse energy of 5.1 μJ and the highest peak power of 10 W were obtained. To our knowledge, these parameters are the highest values in a graphene Q-switched mid-IR Er:YAP laser.
