研究目的
To introduce the combined laser technique, argon laser peripheral iridoplasty (ALPI) and argon laser pupilloplasty (ALPP), in the management of medically unresponsive acute primary angle closure (APAC).
研究成果
The combination of ALPI and ALPP is a temporizing therapeutic strategy for APAC, effective in relieving pupillary block unresponsive to miotic agents, opening the closed angle to a certain extent, restoring the transparency of cornea, and reducing IOP to a safe level for further definitive treatment.
研究不足
The study was limited by the smaller number of cases and the inaccuracies of the manual calibration of UBM. The combined ALPI and ALPP procedures did not work in all cases, particularly those with shallower anterior chamber depth, higher lens vault, and extensive contact area of the iris and lens.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
Retrospective study reviewing records of 23 patients (27 eyes) with APAC who underwent ALPI and ALPP when traditional treatment failed.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Patients diagnosed with APAC with no previous history, increased IOP with varying degrees of corneal edema, shallow anterior chamber, mydriasis, and iris bombe.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Multiple wavelength laser (Nidek Co., Ltd., Japan) and contact lens (Abraham) were applied for the laser treatment.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
ALPI and ALPP were performed with specific laser settings. IOP, visual acuity, corneal edema status, and angle-opening status were monitored before and after surgery.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS 17.0 software package. The paired t-test was applied for testing the significance of each group.
