Blue LED irradiation significantly reduced the development of blue mold symptoms in satsuma mandarin fruits, both when applied after and before inoculation with Penicillium italicum, especially at low inoculum doses. The treatment did not adversely affect fruit quality, except for slight changes in citric acid concentration and moisture loss. These findings suggest that blue light irradiation can directly inhibit fungal growth and may induce an antifungal response in the fruits.
