研究目的
To investigate the effects of femtosecond laser surface texturing on the interfacial bond strength of steel and a thermoplastic polymer PA?6 film, and to evaluate the NIR absorptance of the textured metal substrate for use in a near-infrared (NIR) laser-assisted automated tape placement (ATP) process.
研究成果
The highest lap shear strength of 31.9 MPa was achieved with a tooth shaped laser texture using a hatch distance of 600 μm and an ablated depth of 40 μm, outperforming grit blasted textures. This structure also showed a very evenly distributed absorptance for a wavelength of 1060 nm of approximately 73%. Future investigations should explore the maximum and limits of surface area increase on the bonding strength by femtosecond laser ablation.
研究不足
The study focused on the bonding strength between steel and PA?6 film without considering the influence of composite fibres. Future research should assess the performance of the surface treatment for laser ATP process with CF/PA?6 composites.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study used femtosecond laser processing for structuring steel substrates to study their bonding to polymer behavior. The methodology included lap shear tests, surface analysis with white light interferometry and scanning electron microscopy, and optical measurements to evaluate laser absorptance.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Pickled, skin-passed low carbon steel and an unfilled polyamide 6 (PA?6) film were used. Samples were cleaned in an ultrasonic bath with acetone.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Femtosecond laser (Coherent Monaco), EVG?520HE Semi-Automated Hot Embossing System, Veeco Wyko NT9100 optical profiler, Perkin Elmer Lambda 1050 V/Vis/NIR spectrophotometer.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Steel substrates were textured with varying laser parameters. Lap shear samples were manufactured and tested according to ASTM D 3165. Surface structures were analyzed, and optical measurements were performed.
5:Surface structures were analyzed, and optical measurements were performed.
Data Analysis Methods:
5. Data Analysis Methods: The ISO?25178-2 3D surface parameters were determined to quantify the surface texture. Lap shear strength and optical absorptance were measured and analyzed.
