研究目的
Investigating the fabrication of surface corrugated long period gratings on plastic optical fibers for refractive index sensing.
研究成果
The study successfully demonstrated a simple method for fabricating surface corrugated LPGs on POFs for RI sensing. The LPGs imprinted on thinner POFs exhibited better RI sensing performance. The highest sensitivity and resolution were achieved with specific LPG parameters on a POF with a diameter of 0.25mm.
研究不足
The study is limited to the use of commercial POFs and the specific method of LPG fabrication. The performance of the sensors is evaluated within a specific RI range (1.33-1.45).
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
A mechanical die press print method was used to fabricate LPGs on commercial POFs.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Three kinds of commercial step-index POFs (Super Eska) were used.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Metal mould with a periodic V-grooved structure, sample holding plat, laser diode (TLS001-635, Thorlabs), photodiode (S120C, Thorlabs), tungsten halogen source (HL-2000, Ocean Optics), optical spectrum analyzer (Maya 2000, Ocean Optics).
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
POFs were placed between a metal mould and a sample holding plat, pressure was applied to deform the POFs forming LPGs. The RI sensing performance was tested by immersing the LPG into glycerin solutions with different RIs.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The transmittance of light passing through LPG was measured, and sensitivity and resolution were calculated based on the variation of transmittance and RI.
