研究目的
The formation of smart imaging agents for use in both biochemical and medical applications is a topical area of research. In that area, the use of structures (such as fluorophores) that can self-assemble into higher-order supramolecular assemblies, or be used for surface functionalization, is highly desirable. In particular, dual modal contrast agents with optical imaging and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) properties can combine the excellent anatomical and spatial resolution of MRI with the acute sensitivity of optical-based imaging probes.
研究成果
The study successfully developed lanthanide-based complexes and their AuNP conjugates for potential use as luminescent and MRI contrast agents. The luminescent properties were activated in the presence of specific antennae, and the Gd complexes showed high relaxivity values, especially when conjugated to AuNPs. The formation of micellar structures was observed for certain complexes, indicating their potential for higher relaxivity MRI contrast agents.
研究不足
The study is limited by the specific conditions under which the luminescent and MRI contrast properties were activated, requiring the presence of appropriate sensitizing antennae. The relaxivity of the Gd complexes was found to be dependent on the formation of micellar structures, which may not be stable under all physiological conditions.
