The study completes the understanding of plasmonic modes on a torus by deconstructing the structure of poloidal modes and showing their existence through both analytical and numerical methods. The modes are shown to arise from the symmetry breaking that occurs when a cylinder is folded to form a torus.

The analyses presented are valid in the electrostatic limit and may not be applicable when the size of torus particles are comparable to the wavelength of light.
