To access the surgical and oncological outcomes of simultaneous thulium laser enucleation of bladder tumor (ThuLEBT) and thulium laser enucleation of prostate (ThuLEP) in patients with non-muscle invasive bladder tumor (NMIBC) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Simultaneous ThuLEBT and ThuLEP can be safely performed without increasing the surgical risk and the risk of tumor recurrence and progression in patients with NMIBC and BPH, and it may be preferred alternative for select patients.

1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study was a matched-pair comparison with a long-term follow-up. Patients who underwent simultaneous ThuLEBT and ThuLEP were matched with those who received ThuLEBT alone based on age, tumor size, tumor multiplicity, and postvoid residual urine volume (PVR).

20 The 120-W 2-μm continuous wave thulium: YAG laser (RevoLix?, LISA Laser Products, Katlenburg, Germany) was used as the energy source. A 26-F continuous-flow resectoscope (Karl Storz GmbH, Tuttlingen, Germany) with a separate working channel allowing for the 550-μm laser fiber (RigiFib?, LISA Laser Products) was used.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Complete ThuLEBT for all bladder tumors was performed, followed by ThuLEP. A postoperative immediate single instillation (SI) of chemotherapy was performed in all patients.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 20.0 statistical software package. Continuous variables were compared using the Student’s t test and Wilcoxon rank sum test. All categorical data were compared via the Pearson Chi-square and Fisher exact tests.
