The paper concludes that the monolithic PV/PEC cells and all-in-one membranes may be promising prototypes for further development. The trade-off between PV module and overpotential of the electrolyser is a key issue for the efficiency improvement of PV/PEC devices. The complex of the latter by implementing porosity and adopting concentric layered multi-material assemblies would initiate a gradual transition from planar designs to 3D structures.
