研究目的
To improve the recognition of labial melanotic macule (MML) under reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) by reporting on 3 cases of biopsy-proven MMLs.
研究成果
The presence of a regular honeycomb epidermal pattern and an infiltration of dendritic cells at the DEJ level, surrounding the dermal papillae and the interpapillary space, were the key features of MML under RCM. The dendritic cells seen under RCM in MML correlated mostly with Langerhans cells (LCs) and not melanocytes, which is a novel finding. RCM imaging of these benign lesions requires evaluation of additional criteria, as the presence of dendritic cells at the DEJ may be a sensitive, but not specific, RCM criterion for the diagnosis of melanoma.
研究不足
The study is limited by the small number of cases (3) and the retrospective nature of the analysis. Further studies with a larger number of cases are needed to confirm the findings.
