The NiO/TiO2-OV catalyst exhibited enhanced photocatalytic performance due to the in situ generation of Ti3+ and oxygen vacancies, which facilitated a direct Z-scheme charge transfer, suppressing the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes. This work provides insights into the design of efficient photocatalysts through defect engineering.
