CNN-based methods can obtain better performance compared with handcrafted features when the dataset is not large. Future work will focus on designing a better CNN scheme to combine CC view and MLO view mammograms and training a deeper CNN architecture using a large dataset.

The dataset is not large for training a deeper CNN architecture. Adding gradient or texture image as CNN input may not increase information. Just using CC view and MLO view images as CNN input may not improve mass detection performance.
