1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
A modular approach was used in the synthesis of the target compounds. Hole transporting dPCA moiety and light absorbing DMAAzi fragment were synthesized as separate molecular fragments and then connected via a short, unconjugated alkyl spacer, using an esterification method.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Hydroxyl- functionalized derivative of dPCA and carboxylated derivatives of DMAAzi were synthesized.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Materials and solvents were purchased from Alfa Aesar and Sigma Aldrich. NMR spectra were obtained using a Bruker Avance 300 MHz spectrometer. The elemental analysis of the synthesized compounds was carried with an EuroVector EA 3000 elemental analyzer.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The synthesis involved alkylation, Ullmann reaction, condensation reaction, and Steglich esterification.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
DSC and TGA analyses were used for studying the thermal properties. UV-Vis absorption spectra were recorded on a Perkin Elmer Lambda 35 spectrometer. The molecular ionization energy in thin film and photoconductivity measurements were carried out on a self-made experimental system.
