研究目的
To propose the use of dielectric photonic crystals instead of metamaterials in transformation optics-based devices to overcome the challenge of losses in metamaterials, especially in the optical range, and to demonstrate their implementation in cylindrical invisibility cloaks.
研究成果
The research confirms the possibility of implementing photonic crystals, instead of metamaterials, in the media of electromagnetic and photonic devices designed using transformation optics concepts, including invisibility cloaks. Photonic crystals offer advantages over metamaterials by not having loss-related restrictions for applications in the optical range and benefiting from well-developed technology.
研究不足
The study faces challenges in achieving high values of radial index components near the inner boundary of the cloak and in minimizing scattering from boundaries of PhC fragments and distorted unit cells. Additionally, fine-tuning of the self-collimation effect is found challenging due to significant distortions of periodicity in concentric crystal fragments.
