研究目的
To determine which UV wavelengths are effective to expose Gafchromic XR-RV3 and XR-SP2 films for use as a substitute for X-rays in the double exposure technique to correct nonuniformity errors.
研究成果
UV-A irradiation at 365 nm is effective for exposing Gafchromic XR-RV3 and XR-SP2 films, showing the highest pixel value changes, and can be used as a substitute for X-rays in the double exposure technique to correct nonuniformity errors. UV-B showed moderate reactions, and UV-C had few reactions. This approach allows for uniform irradiation over large areas, overcoming limitations of X-ray heel effects.
研究不足
The study used UV-A fluorescent tube types with a broad wavelength range (315-400 nm), so the most efficient specific wavelength within UV-A is unknown. Future work is needed with lamps producing narrow wavelength ranges, such as LEDs, to identify the optimal wavelength. Additionally, the reactions were evaluated through image analysis rather than visual inspection, and the films have UV protection which may limit sensitivity.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study aimed to compare the sensitivity of Gafchromic XR-RV3 and XR-SP2 films to UV radiation at wavelengths of 245 nm (UV-C), 310 nm (UV-B), and 365 nm (UV-A) to identify the most effective wavelength for pre-irradiation in a double exposure technique. The method involved irradiating films with UV lamps, scanning them, and analyzing pixel values.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Gafchromic XR-RV3 (lot #05221406) and XR-SP2 (lot #01311401) films were used, cut to 9 cm by 4.5 cm pieces.

3. List of Experimental Equipment and Materials: UV lamps with peak wavelengths of 365 nm (NEC FL10SBL, 10 W), 310 nm (Kyokko Denki FL-10E, 10 W), and 245 nm (Toshiba GL10SBL, 10 W); flatbed scanner (EPSON ES-10000G); image analysis software (ImageJ version 1.44o); UV meters (UVR-300 with UD-360 and UD-250 probes, UV-340A); acrylic plates for UV protection; PPC film (CR-PP686) and liquid crystal protection film (LCD-230W) for scanning.

4. Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow: Films were irradiated with each UV wavelength for 60-minute intervals up to 600 minutes, scanned after each interval using a flatbed scanner with specific settings to avoid artifacts, and analyzed by placing ROIs and measuring mean pixel values in the red channel.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Pixel values were analyzed using ImageJ software, with graphs plotted to show the relationship between UV exposure time and mean pixel values, and standard deviations calculated.
