  • Clinical efficacy comparison of low-temperature plasma radiofrequency ablation and Nd:YAG laser in treating recurrent acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction

    摘要: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of low-temperature plasma radiofrequency ablation (coblation) and Nd:YAG laser in treating recurrent nasolacrimal duct obstruction. A prospective study was performed on patients who agreed to be treated with coblation or Nd:YAG laser for recurrent nasolacrimal duct obstruction after failed lacrimal Nd:YAG laser combined with silicone intubation. The visual analogue scale (VAS) pain grade was assessed at baseline, immediately, and 3 and 7 days after surgery. The degree of watering, lacrimal passage irrigation, and complications were also evaluated 1 week and 1, 3, and 6 months after surgery. Ninety-five patients who met the criteria for recurrent nasolacrimal duct obstruction from February 2018 to February 2019 were included in this study, with 46 patients receiving coblation and 49 patients Nd:YAG laser. The intraoperative and postoperative (3 days after surgery) VAS pain grades of the patients who received coblation were significantly lower than those who received Nd:YAG laser (P < 0.001). The number of patients in the coblation group who achieved complete clinical relief (no epiphora symptoms with fluent lacrimal passage irrigation) was significantly larger than that in the lacrimal Nd:YAG laser group at 1, 3, and 6 months after surgery (P = 0.033, P = 0.006, P = 0.003, respectively). During the follow-up period, there were no unexpected complications in either group. Compared with Nd:YAG laser, coblation performed well in alleviating pain and maintaining sustained disease relief and may therefore be an alternative to conventional laser or dacryocystorhinostomy surgery in the management of recurrent nasolacrimal duct obstruction.

  • Treating Vaginal Laxity Using Nonablative Er:YAG Laser: A Retrospective Case Series of Patients From 2.5??Years of Clinical Practice

    摘要: Introduction: Vaginal laxity drastically impairs women’s quality of life, suggesting there is a need for effective noninvasive treatments. Aim: The aim was to retrospectively assess the effectiveness and safety of a nonablative Er:YAG IntimaLase laser procedure for vaginal laxity in patients treated in our clinical practice during a 2.5-year period. Methods: Laser treatment for vaginal laxity was performed using an intravaginal nonablative Er:YAG laser. Effectiveness was assessed using a Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire and also by independent evaluation of before and after treatment photographs of the patients’ introitus. The safety and tolerability of the procedure was monitored in all patients. Main Outcome Measure: The study showed an improvement of sexual grati?cation and improvement of vaginal tightness, as assessed by patients. The tightness of the introitus was also improved, as assessed by independent evaluators. Results: As assessed by the Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire, we show that 92.7% of patients experienced improvement of sexual grati?cation after IntimaLase laser treatment. The results of the visual evaluation of the grade of laxity improvement in the introitus area, when open introitus photos were evaluated, show that 69% (n ? 20/29) of patients had an improvement of laxity. Nonablative Er:YAG treatment seems to be an effective and safe treatment for vaginal laxity. As it is a noninvasive procedure, it should be considered before any vaginoplasty surgery. The study included all the patients treated in clinical practice and observed very few adverse effects. The results were comparable with other published data. Because it is a retrospective study, there is a lack of a control group. Conclusion: The results have con?rmed that patients suffering from vaginal laxity can be effectively treated using the nonablative Er:YAG IntimaLase procedure without adverse effects.

  • Laser Annealing Enhanced the Photophysical Performance of Pt/n-PSi/ZnO/Pt-Based Photodetectors

    摘要: Herein, the effect of pulsed Nd:YAG laser irradiation at different fluencies in air at room temperature on the performance of n-PSi/ZnO-based UV MSM photodetector was demonstrated. Thermal and photon energies were coupled to synthesize n-PSi/ZnO NCs heterojunctions. The porous silicon (PSi) films with nano-sized pore arrays were first prepared via photoelectrochemical etching (PECE) of n-type silicon wafers with 45 mA/cm2 current density for a duration of 30 min. This was followed by radio frequency sputtering (RFS) of ZnO on PSi at 700 oC and irradiating with a Nd: YAG laser pulses with laser fluence of 40 mJ/cm2. X-ray diffraction analysis indicates the formation of ZnO wurtzite hexagonal crystal structure of n-PSi/ZnO NCs, where the crystallite size decreases (96-29 nm) with number of pulses. Field emission electron scanning microscopy and atomic force microscopy reveal porous nanostructure, arrays of nearly spherically shape particles homogeneously distributed on the entire surface where roughness increases (84-139 nm) with number of pulses. Photoluminescence spectroscopy reveals intrinsic band-to-band transition, donor-acceptor pair emission and quenching of the broadband intensity related to improved of crystallinity, meanwhile the band gap energy of the n-PSi/ZnO NCs is found to decrease (3.26 – 3.13 V). The Nd:YAG laser annealing demonstrate a positive effect on the properties of n-PSi/ZnO NCs photodetector, exhibiting very high sensitivity (3772.92) and very short rise and recovery times (0.30 s and 0.26 s).

  • OPTIMIZED DISTANCE FOR NON-DAMAGING IN LASER CLEANING PREPARATION

    摘要: Laser Technology has wide application in industry as well as in scientific research. Semiconductor industry also interested to use laser for cleaning contaminant. However, until today, no laser has been deployed to take over the traditional method due to lack of intension on it. As a first step to embark into industrial solution, initiative has been carried out to do fundamental experiment. Optimization has been established to find out the best position for cleaning without associated with damage. A Q-switched Nd:YAG laser was focused to create breakdown in the air. This is an indicator for plasma formation and shock wave generation as the main mechanisms of damage. Pure aluminium was used as a substrate and mounted on précised a 3D linear translational stage. The defocused distance was varied in the range of 0-25 mm. The damage image was recorded and analysed via the aid of ImageJ software. Small and deep dense deformation was observed as the target located at the focal point. As the defocused distance move further away, the damage tend to be eliminated and its depth approaching the same level as original.

  • Dose-dependent effect of the pulsed Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of crushed sciatic nerve in Wister rats: an experimental model

    摘要: The objective of the study was to investigate the efficacy of three energy densities 4, 10, and 50 J/cm2 of pulsed Nd:YAG laser for the treatment of crushed sciatic nerve in Wister rats by evaluating changes in the sciatic functional index and the electrophysiology.A total of 180 Wistar rats were involved in the study. Rats were randomly assigned to five groups. Rats were subjected to the sciatic nerve crushing. Control negative (CONT-ve), which received no crushing; control positive (CONT+ve), which received crushing with no laser; and HILT-4, HILT-10, and HILT-50 groups, which received pulsed Nd:YAG laser (10 Hz, 360 mJ/cm2) with energy densities 4, 10, and 50 J/cm2, respectively. The SFI, the amilitude of compound motor action potential (CMAP) and sciatic motor nerve conduction velocity (MNCV) were measured before and after seven, 14, and 21 days after crushing. For the SFI and electrophysiological analysis, repeated measures ANOVA is used, followed by Bonferroni’s repeated-measures test. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. After one week, there was no significant difference in SFI, CMAP, and MNCV among the three laser groups with significant changes between them and CONT-ve and CONT+ve groups. There was a significant increase in either CMAP amplitude or MNCV after 14 days with significant decrease in the SFI after 21 days among all treatment groups. The pulsed Nd:YAG laser applied with energy densities 4, 10, and 50 J/cm2 significantly decreased the SFI and increased the CMAP and MNCV of the crushed sciatic nerve in Wister rats. Among laser doses, the difference in the rate of recovery in the electrophysiology was found after two weeks while in the SFI after three weeks. The improvement after the nerve injury was time and dose dependent.

  • Nd:YAG Laser Posterior Capsulotomy in Adult Patients with Uveitis

    摘要: Purpose: To study the complication rate of Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy in patients with uveitis. Method: Retrospective case note analysis of pseudophakic uveitis patients having undergone Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy between January 2016 and December 2018. Complications documented included uveitis flare, raised intraocular pressure, intraocular lens damage/displacement, cystoid macular edema, and retinal detachment. Results: There were 39 eyes of 38 patients (20M, 18F; age 27–89 years). Mean interval between cataract surgery and laser was 55 months (range 8–286 months). Mean laser energy was 79 mJ (range 33–207 mJ). At 3 months 62% of eyes achieved a 2–5 Snellen line improvement that was maintained at 12 months. Vision was unchanged in 21% of eyes due to preexisting pathology, with no eyes having worse vision. No post-laser complications were documented. Conclusions: Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy is a safe procedure in uveitis patients, resulting in a good improvement in vision.

  • Effects of Er:YAG Laser on the Attachment of Human Periodontal Ligament Fibroblasts to Denuded Root Surfaces Simulating Delayed Replantation Cases: An <i>In Vitro</i> Study

    摘要: Objective: To investigate the effects of Er:YAG laser on the attachment of human periodontal ligament ?broblasts (hPDLFs) to denuded root surfaces simulating delayed replantation cases. Background data: Dental avulsion is one of the most severe dental traumas, which is often treated with replantation. In delayed replantation scenarios, poor prognosis, including root resorption, usually occurs due to poor root surface conditioning and nonviable hPDLF attachment. Methods: Thirty-six root fragments (5 · 5 · 2 mm) were obtained from periodontium tissue-free premolar root surfaces. Specimens were randomly and equally assigned to the following: Group A, untreated control; Group B, 25 J/cm2 and 10 Hz of Er:YAG laser irradiation; and Group C, 50 J/cm2 and 10 Hz of Er:YAG laser irradiation. Some specimens in each group were then prepared for surface topography visualization under SEM, others were subjected to coculture with hPDLF suspension, and cell adhesion was further evaluated by SEM. Results: Group A presented homogenous smooth root surface, with fewer and round-shaped cells attached; Group B and C exhibited rather rough and irregular morphologies, and spindle-shaped ?broblasts were ?rmly attached by numerous lamellipodia and extensions. After a 3-day coculture, the number of ?broblasts attached in Group A was signi?cantly lower compared with the other two laser-treated groups ( p = 0.008 < 0.05). No signi?cant alterations were observed between the two laser groups ( p = 0.135 > 0.05). Conclusions: Er:YAG laser-treated root surfaces are compatible for the attachment of PDLFs, which suggests that Er:YAG laser irradiation may be used as a promising strategy for root surface conditioning in delayed replantation cases.

  • Investigation on solidification cracks in pulsed laser spot welding of an AZ31 magnesium alloy

    摘要: A direction-dependent model of solidification crack initiation and propagation is established to analyze the influence of the melt pool shape on the distribution of solidification cracks in pulsed laser spot welding. The formation direction of the initial crack is related to the variation of the solidification parameters. When the aspect ratio of the spot welds with a default Rectangular pulse is greater than 0.3 and less than 0.8, an initial crack is formed in the 45° direction of the mushy zone, and then the crack propagates along the grain boundary. That is, the solidification cracks are distributed in the direction of 45° on both sides of the surface center of the welding cross-section. When the aspect ratio of the spot welds is less than 0.3 or greater than 0.8, an initial crack is formed in the 90° direction of the mushy zone, and then the solidification crack is vertically distributed at the center of the welding cross-section. The Step-Down-10ms-0.3P pulse can significantly reduce the solidification rate of the melt pool interface, preventing the formation of initial cracks in the sensitive directions of the spot welds with an aspect ratio less than 0.8, thereby eliminating solidification cracks.

  • Study on the Main Influencing Factors in the Removal Process of Non-Stick Fluoropolymer Coatings Using Nd:YAG Laser

    摘要: The coatings with fluoropolymer resins rich in fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) are applied as anti-adherent coatings on aluminum–magnesium substrates for use in food containers. In many cases, due to wear, they must be stripped for the application of a new coating on the same substrate. There are several processes for this: blasting, plasma, pyrolysis, chemical processes, laser, high pressure water, and combinations of these. This work focuses on the characterization of the main factors that condition the FEP coating removal process by a continuous wave (CW) Nd:YAG laser, and on the determination of the efficiency of this type of technology used for this purpose. Stripping surface per unit of time and energy consumption per unit area has been determined among other efficiency indicators. Regarding the characterization of the coating object of study, its thickness, surface roughness, contact angle, microhardness and absorbance-reflectance responses have been determined, and the results have been compared with those obtained in the case of PTFE. In addition, to evaluate the mechanical damage caused in the substrate after coating removal by (CW) Nd:YAG laser, the tensile strength, Vickers hardness, Ra and Rz roughness, and the substrate thickness have been measured and analyzed.

  • Effect of different laser types on bonding strength of CAD/CAM-customized zirconia post to root canal dentin: an experimental study

    摘要: In clinical dentistry, the strength of bonding zirconia posts to root canal dentinal walls currently needs enhancement, and laser application can be an important contribution owing to its features that accommodate adjustable modifications on dental materials. Herein, the effect of different laser treatments applied to dentin surfaces on the strength of bonding zirconia posts to root canal dentinal walls is evaluated by using the pull-out bond strength test in a laboratory setting. A total of 40 single-rooted permanent mandibular premolar teeth that were freshly extracted were used here. The root canal preparation steps were performed using the crown-down technique. Custom-made zirconia posts were produced using CAD/CAM technology. Prior to the application of resin cement, the internal surfaces of the root canals were irradiated using Nd:YAG, Er:YAG, and KTP lasers. Pull-out tests were performed on each specimen by using a universal testing machine. One-way analysis of variance and Tukey post hoc tests were used to compare the pull-out bond strength data. The bond strengths of the laser-treated specimens were greater than those of the untreated controls (p < 0.05). While the value of the pull-out bond strength after Nd:YAG laser treatment was significantly higher than the values obtained after the applications of the Er:YAG and KTP lasers (p < 0.05), the pull-out bond strength after Er:YAG laser treatment was considerably greater than that after KTP laser treatment (p < 0.05). The bond strength between the root canal dentin and the CAD/CAM custom-made zirconia post was improved upon using all the laser modalities in current laboratory settings, among which, application of the Nd:YAG laser was the most successful.
