  • Analysis of Approaches for Modeling the Low Frequency Emission of LED Lamps

    摘要: Light emitting diode (LED) lamps are now an established lighting technology, which is becoming prevalent in all load sectors. However, LED lamps are non-linear electrical loads, and their impact on distribution system voltage quality must be evaluated. This paper provides a detailed analysis of time domain and frequency domain approaches for developing and evaluating models suitable for use in large scale steady-state harmonic power ?ow analysis of the low frequency (LF) emission of LED lamps. The considered approaches are illustrated using four general categories of LED lamps, which have been shown to cover the vast majority of LED lamps currently available on the market. The aim is an in-depth assessment of the ability of commonly applied models to represent the speci?c design characteristics of different categories of LED lamps. The accuracy of the models is quantitatively evaluated by means of laboratory tests, numerical simulations, and statistical analyses. This provides an example, for each LED lamp category, of comprehensive information about the overall accuracy that can be achieved in the general framework of large scale LF harmonic penetration studies, particularly in the assessment of voltage quality in low voltage networks and their future evolution.

  • Adoption and consequences of new light-fishing technology (LEDs) on Lake Tanganyika, East Africa

    摘要: Maintaining sustainable fisheries requires understanding the influence of technological advances on catch efficiency, as technological creep can ultimately contribute to increased efficiency. Fisheries using light sources for attraction could be widely impacted by the shift to light emitting diode (LED) light systems. We studied the transition from kerosene lanterns to LED lamps in Lake Tanganyika, East Africa, examining factors that led to adoption as well as the impact of the new light sources on fish catch and composition. We used a combination of field experiments with catch assessments, fisher surveys, underwater light spectra measurements, and cost assessments to evaluate the impact of switching from kerosene to LED lamps. Overall, we found a very rapid rate of adoption of homemade outdoor LED light systems in Lake Tanganyika. Most of the batteries used to power these lamps were charged from the city power grid, rather than photovoltaic cells, although the potential exists for a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The LED light spectra was distinct from the kerosene light and penetrated much deeper into the water column. Regardless of light type, most of the fish caught within the two dominant species were below maturity. Although the LED lamps were associated with a slight increase in catch, environmental factors, particularly distance offshore, were generally more important in determining fish catch size and composition. The main advantages of the LED lamps were the lower operating costs and their robustness in bad weather. Thus, the primary effect of the use of battery-powered LED lighting systems to attract fish in Lake Tanganyika appears to reduce economic costs and increasing efficiency. However, overall the lake’s fishery remains vulnerable to overfishing.

    摘要: Nowadays, the light-emitting diode (LED) bulb is one of the preferred choice in lighting system design. Electrical models of the LED lamps have to consider their nonlinear behavior involving current distortion on the mains. With this purpose, an equivalent electrical circuit emulating the current drawn by a LED Bulbs is carried out. In this work, different lamps have been tested under variable supply voltage. The comparison between the simulations performed by means of PSpice and the experimental measurements has highlighted that linear interpolation for the amplitude of each harmonic current, as function of the voltage on the main, provides a good estimation of the total current waveform.

  • Two-Phase Resonant Converter to Drive High-Power LED Lamps

    摘要: This paper presents the design and modeling of a two-phase resonant converter that drives a LED lamp with a high-frequency pulsed current free of instabilities and flicker effect, fulfilling the recommendations of the IEEE PAR 1789-2015, so that it enables visible light-based communication at a 10 kB/s bit rate. The dynamic study of the converter takes into consideration the effect of the reflected impedance of the output filter on the AC side. In order to evaluate the dynamic response of the converter, a Spice model is defined. A 120 W prototype intended for street lighting applications has been built to validate the analysis and modeling.

    摘要: A microcontroller, an RGBC sensor and a commercially available programmable lighting section was designed as a building block for developing a more complex intelligent lighting system. Because measurement of the CCT can be affected by different errors, in this paper the main sources of error are identified and discussed. CCT calculation relationships based on the RGBC components given by the RGBC sensor, the influence of the illumination level, the influence of the sensor position and the influence of distance between sensor and lighting elements are identified as the main error sources and considerations regarding their decreasing are given.

    摘要: Due to the fact that it is a semiconductor based lighting equipment, the LEDs have important effects on the power quality. In the ever-expanding lighting industry, the use of LED equipment is increasing day by day. Therefore, it is very important to analyze and interpret the effects of LEDs on the grid. In this study, power quality measurements of 4 different commercial LED luminaires have been realized and the results obtained have been interpreted. According to the measurements, it is found that the power factor values are acceptable for the luminaries when they are completely on. However, when the luminaries are dimmed, it has been observed that the power factor decreased and the current harmonics exceeded the limit values determined by the related standards. On the other hand, it is seen that all the luminaires provide flicker boundaries. As a result of the study, it has been concluded that the effects of dimmable equipment on power quality should be analyzed in more detail.
