  • Late-stage Customization in Volume Production of Organic Photovoltaics

    摘要: Organic photovoltaics (OPV) in free-form shapes have become a unique feature compared to other thin-film photovoltaic technologies. The ability to conform coated layers to any form of shape or structure is a game changer for OPV and creates a paradigm shift in conventional energy businesses. As urban growth prevails, the energy requirement must be compensated by modern means and OPVs provide unique properties where its form or shape can be fully customized. This creates a synergy as they are then easily integrated onto structures or even products. By doing so not only the space requirements are diminished but the energy is delivered directly to the point of use rather than having them transported from central harvesting. The present communication discusses the advances in realizing such free-from patterns by structuring the functional layers to shape after they have been deposited which is referred to as late-stage customization. Using this approach, a pre-coated generic OPV material can be converted into any design upon customer request. The advantages include easier planning, shorter lead times in production as well as paving the way towards lean manufacturing.

  • Damp-Heat-Stable, High-Efficiency, Industrial-Size Silicon Heterojunction Solar Cells

    摘要: Silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cells hold the power conversion efficiency (PCE) record among crystalline solar cells. However, amorphous silicon is a typical high-entropy metastable material. Damp-heat aging experiments unveil that the amorphous/crystalline silicon interface is susceptible to moisture, which is potentially the biggest stumbling block for mass production. By capping SiNx and SiOx dielectrics, the absolute PCE degradation is predicted to be only (cid:1)0.6% after a 30-year installation. This demonstrates the SHJ solar cell is a highly promising candidate for next-generation photovoltaics.

    摘要: We present n-type bifacial solar cells with a rear SiOx/n+:poly-Si passivating contact where the interfacial SiOx and the n+:poly-Si layers are fabricated using an industrial inline plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) tool. Using a simple solar cell process flow that can be easily adapted for mass production, we demonstrate a peak cell efficiency of 23.05% with a cell open circuit voltage (Voc) of 694 mV achieved on large-area, screen printed, Czochralski-silicon (Cz-Si) solar cells using commercial fire-through metal pastes. Furthermore, we show that the n+:poly-Si layers are low-absorbing and can give short-circuit current density (Jsc) values of up to 41.0 mA/cm2 after optimization of the rear poly-Si thickness and the front anti-reflective coating.

  • Mass Producible Low-Loss Broadband Optical Waveguides in Eagle2000 by Femtosecond Laser Writing

    摘要: Optical waveguides were fabricated in alkaline earth boro-aluminosilicate glass, by femtosecond laser direct writing, with varying pulse energy and scan velocity. A spectral characterization, from 500 nm to 1700 nm, was made in order to determine their losses and understand its dependence on the processing parameters. Three major loss mechanisms were identified. At longer wavelengths, loss is mainly due to weak coupling. On the other hand, the behavior at shorter wavelengths is governed by propagation loss due to Rayleigh scattering, which was shown to be practically eliminated (<0.05 dB· cm?1· μm4) at higher scan velocities. Bulk absorption was also found to have an influence in the propagation losses at higher wavelengths. The combination of intermediate pulse energies (between 125-250 nJ) and high scan velocities (above 6 cm/s) allowed the fabrication of optical waveguides offering low losses across the entire range of wavelengths tested, facilitating applications that require larger wavelength working bands. Furthermore, since optimal fabrication conditions are achieved at higher scanning velocities, mass production with reduced fabrication times can be achieved.
