  • Tunable quantum routing via asymmetric intercavity couplings

    摘要: Routing efficiently the photon signals between different channels is essential in an optical quantum network. Recent chiral waveguide–emitter coupling techniques are widely applied to improve the routing capabilities in waveguide systems. As a possible alternative, we put forward a proposal to control the quantum routing of photons by adjusting asymmetric intercavity couplings on both sides of a cross-cavity in an X-shaped coupled-resonator waveguide. With the robust and tunable intercavity couplings, high transfer rate between quantum channels and expected probability distributions of two ports in the same output channel can be easily implemented. The asymmetric intercavity coupling may be utilized as a new handle to efficiently control the single-photon routing.

    摘要: We report the results of a study of an optical sensor based on a channel-drop technique with two cascaded cavities in photonic-crystal slabs. Quality factors and intensities of the resonant modes of the sensor were analyzed with three-dimensional simulations. With the introduction of a re?ector in the bus-channel and by control of the coupling between the two cavities and the drop-channel, the drop ef?ciency can be remarkably increased. In addition to the simulation, the two cavity sensor is fabricated and tested for optical response to water and oil in?ltration. Both direct visual imaging and quantitative analysis were applied in experiment. A difference of refractive index Δn = 0.12 between water and oil samples results in a wavelength shift of 18.3 nm, which greatly matches the simulation result of 20 nm and indicates a sensitivity of 153 nm RIU?1. Both resonant peaks for water and oil in?ltration have good selectivity in their transmission spectrum. The contrast between the broadband output of the bus-channel and the highly wavelength-selective outputs of the drop-channel opens opportunities for the two cascaded-cavity system as a fundamental building block for a multiplex drop-channel array for all-optical sensing, which can be widely used for bio/chemical detection and environmental monitoring.

  • Fabrication of integrated spectrometer module based on optical waveguide platform with planar nano diffraction grating using UV imprint lithography

    摘要: We proposed a simple and attractive integrated polymeric spectrometer module based on a planar optical waveguide platform that can be easily manufactured at a low cost. The proposed integrated spectrometer module comprises a planar optical waveguide with a concave mirror, a planar nano diffraction grating with a non-uniform pitch, an optical fiber, and a photodiode array. The nano diffraction grating and optical waveguide platform were precisely fabricated using the UV imprint lithography suitable for mass production. To provide uniform diffraction efficiency in the wavelength range of 400–650 nm, the nano diffraction grating had a quasi-three-dimensional V-shaped groove with a blazing angle of 22.5° and non-uniform pitches, maximum of 0.406 μm and minimum of 0.393 μm. In addition, the optical waveguide platform focuses the optical source to the nano diffraction grating using the concave mirror. The alignment guide pattern is used to align the nano diffraction grating and optical fiber. Through the packaging process of nano grating device, photo diode array and fiber on the planar optical waveguide platform, we manufactured the polymeric integrated polymeric spectrometer module. We confirmed that the fabricated planar spectrometer module had a resolution of 5 nm or less for spectral bandwidth of 250 nm, and it can be used widely in portable spectrometer sensors.

  • Propagation characteristics of parallel dark solitons in silicon-on-insulator waveguide

    摘要: The propagation characteristic of two identical and parallel dark solitons in a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) waveguide is simulated numerically using the split-step Fourier method. The parallel dark solitons imposed by the initial chirp are investigated mainly by changing their power, their relative time delay. The simulation shows that the time delay deforms the parallel dark soliton pulse, forming a bright-like soliton in the transmission process and making the transmission quality down. By increasing the power of one dark soliton, the energy of the other dark soliton can be increased, and larger increase in a soliton’s power leads to larger increase in the energy of the other. When the initial chirp is introduced into one of the dark solitons, higher energy consumption is observed. In particular, positive chirps resulting in pulse broadening width while negative chirps narrowing, with an obvious compression effect on the other dark soliton. Finally, large negative chirps are found to have a profound impact on parallel and nonparallel dark solitons.

  • Extraordinary transmission and reflection in ${PT}$-symmetric two-segment-connected triangular optical waveguide networks with perfect and broken integer waveguide length ratios

    摘要: By adjusting the waveguide length ratio, we study the extraordinary characteristics of electromagnetic waves propagating in one-dimensional (1D) parity-time-symmetric (???? -symmetric) two-segment-connected triangular optical waveguide networks with perfect and broken integer waveguide length ratios respectively. It is found that the number and the corresponding frequencies of the extremum spontaneous ???? -symmetric breaking points are dependent on the waveguide length ratio. Near the extremum breaking points, ultrastrong extraordinary transmissions are created and the maximal can arrive at, respectively, 2.4079 × 1014 and 4.3555 × 1013 in both kinds of networks. However, bidirectional invisibility can only be produced by the networks with broken integer waveguide length ratio, whose mechanism is explained in detail from the perspective of photonic band structure. The findings of this work can be useful optical characteristic control in the fabrication of ???? -symmetric optical waveguide networks, which possesses great potential in designing optical amplifiers, optical energy saver devices, and special optical filters.

    摘要: The ability of grating based optical waveguide structures for Wavelength Division Multiplexing is demonstrated. In addition to the conventional function of an input grating coupled waveguide to couple an incident surface beam from an optical source like an optical ?ber into a planar waveguide, a modi?ed design to have a predetermined wavelength multiplexing response has been modelled and analysed. The structure is designed for 1550 nm wavelength and the separation between the wavelengths obtained is 10 nm. An improved waveguide structure of apodized grating pro?le along the waveguide is modelled for 1310 nm operation. There is a signi?cant increase in the number of channels with an improved channel bandwidth.

  • Optimization of parameters of integrated optical waveguides based on thin-film Sol-gel structures by using mathematical modelling

    摘要: An algorithm for calculating optical waveguide film parameters was proposed, the use of which makes it possible to reduce the time for processing experimental data. The developed algorithm was tested using experimental data of waveguides samples with a wave-guiding layer of zirconium dioxide sol-gel films. A comparison of the developed algorithm and the Wolfram Mathematica program showed a good agreement of the results, as well as the developed method advantage in terms of using ease and timesaving spent on processing the results.

  • Study of an Electromagnetic Wave Transmission Line Based on Coupled Dielectric Resonators

    摘要: An analog of an optical waveguide in the form of a chain of metallic nanoparticles has been investigated using modified cylindrical dielectric resonators in the microwave band. Similar to the plasma oscillations in spherical nanoparticles, the two lowest resonances of the dielectric resonator correspond to the dipole and quadrupole oscillatory modes. It is shown that a waveguide consisting of seven resonators exhibits high frequency selective properties and relatively low loss if the resonances of the quadrupole oscillatory modes are used to form its passband. The characteristics of the investigated waveguide remain almost unchanged at its bending by 90°, and the cross section of localization of the main part of the energy propagating in the waveguide is smaller than the electromagnetic wavelength by a factor of five, which approximately corresponds to the optical waveguides based on plasma oscillations in nanoparticles.

  • Tailoring of the self-assembled structures and optical waveguide behaviour of arylaminofluorenone derivatives

    摘要: In this work, the fluorenone molecule was symmetrically difunctionalised in the 3,6-positions with four different arylamine moieties. Using slow evaporation, the four fluorenone derivatives (FO1-4) exhibit good ability to arrange into microstructures in the solid state. The electronic and steric effects of arylamine substituents influence both optical features and aggregation processes, as evidenced by photophysical and XRD characterization. SEM investigations have shown that the four FO1-4 derivatives arrange in four different microstructures. More specifically, the self-assembled 1D microribbon – shaped structure of FO1 exhibited an excellent optical loss coefficient (α) as low as 0.006 dBμm?1, suggesting a potential use of these materials in the field of optical waveguide.
