摘要: a novel Butler matrix is proposed. It consists of resonant stripline couplers without phase shifters nor crossings. In order to prove its working mechanism, it is used in a beam forming network (BFN) to drive a 2×2 array realized in multilayer PCB technology. A prototype has been built and measured.

摘要: Widely used digital attenuator and phase shifter could inevitably introduce quantization errors for distorted active phased array antenna, at the time of controlling the amplitude and phase for improving the electromagnetic performance. The reduction of quantization errors decides the compensation effect service for antenna environment. Therefore, a compensation method for distorted antenna in condition of quantization errors is presented based on the coupled structural-electromagnetic model with least squares method. The quantized amplitude and phase adjustments are deduced from the perspective of multiple dividing of minimum quantization value and the optimal amplitude and phase differences, which could be implemented to recover a high quality pattern from a distorted antenna. Lastly, an X-band active phased array antenna with representative saddle shape deformation is illustrated to verify the compensation effect for quantization errors including both the amplitude and phase.

摘要: This paper presents our study on the ghost images suppression for THz imaging system with large sampling spacing which are achieved by both sparse antenna array (SPA) of large element spacing (>8λ) and mechanical scanning. The ghost images in synthetic aperture imaging algorithm is due to the grating lobes of the array radiation pattern, so we propose a ghost image suppression method based on a weighting function in the traditional imaging algorithm. Therefore, the large sampling spacing between array elements for synthetic aperture THz imaging becomes possible, which can further reduce the cost and data acquisition time. And this study will help to guide the scheme design of SPA for THz imaging system.

摘要: In this paper, we have proposed an improved direction-of-arrival (DoA) estimation algorithm, which uses the power pattern cross-correlation (PPCC) estimator and received signal strength (RSS) values recorded at electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antenna’s output port, providing more accurate DoA results for unknown signals impinging the antenna. The PPCC estimator in its original form provides accurate DoA estimation results for directions lying within the horizontal plane. However, the estimation accuracy drops for other elevation angles as the estimator relies on ESPAR antenna’s radiation patterns measurements in the horizontal plane only. Our proposed modification allows one to measure ESPAR antenna’s radiation patterns in two different elevation planes during the calibration phase, which improves PPCC-based DoA estimation algorithm’s overall accuracy for signals impinging the antenna from arbitrary elevation angles. The proposed algorithm has been verified during anechoic chamber measurements using our ESPAR antenna prototype.

摘要: Many parties are interested in being able to locate the source of GPS interference, but most methods for locating RF emitters require large systems with high power consumption ?gures. In order to build a lower power system capable of ?nding emitters based solely on the power in the signal, a suitable antenna must be designed. In this paper three antennas are designed and simulated. They are compared based on how suitable their radiation pattern would be for locating emitters. A simple version of the best design was tested and it was found to be able to pinpoint an interfering signal with precision better than one degree and in less than a second.

摘要: This article presents a method to improve the accuracy of the array factor generally used to synthesize the Active Element Pattern in a uniform linear array. In the literature, the commonly used array factor is obtained by making a far-field approximation. In this article, we consider the active element pattern synthesis using the Z matrix of the array and we show that the larger the inter-element distance or/and the number of elements are, the lower the accuracy of the far-field approximation will be. This leads to a lower accuracy of the active element pattern synthesis. We propose a spherical model for the array factor and we show that when the far-field approximation is no longer accurate enough to be used, this spherical model can lower the Mean Squared Errors between the synthesized and the simulated active element patterns.

摘要: Transmit-arrays (TAs) have become popular solutions for point-to-point communications due to their low-profile and high-efficiency. However, simulation of these large and detailed structures demands a great amount of memory and time. Here, we propose a fast algorithm to estimate the performance of a beam-steering TA to accelerate its design optimization process. The results and the required resources of the algorithm are compared with the ones of Ansys HFSS. It is shown that this algorithm can fairly evaluate the key factors of the performance of a TA within couple of minutes with memory resource of only 1 GB.

摘要: In this work we present a study to determine the parameters affecting the power radiated in specific directions by antenna arrays with tilted elements. We developed an efficient Method of Moments (MoM) for the analysis of linear arrays with arbitrarily tilted dipole elements, in free space or in the presence of a backing reflector. By using this analysis method, we study the radiation characteristics of arrays of stacked dipoles over a ground plane, highlighting the variation of the patterns as a function of the inter-element distance and the angle of inclination of the element. It is shown that, for large arrays (i.e. with more than 10 elements), the shape of the active element pattern does not change significantly as a function of the number of elements, but it depends on the inter-element distance and the skew angle of the array elements. A few examples to show this capability are presented.

摘要: Global System Reflectometry (GNSS-R) is a passive sensing method to measure properties of the Earth’s surface, of oceans, or of the atmosphere by analyzing reflected navigation signals from GNSS satellites such as GPS (Global Positioning System). The reflected signals can be measured with ground based, air borne, or space based sensors, and the applications reach from altimetry, ocean wind retrieval, soil moisture to vegetation growth analysis. The principle of GNSS-R was presented a few decades ago. Meanwhile, GNSS-R is already used in ground based GNSS sites, performance analyses/demonstrations for in-orbit measurements are carried out, and orbit missions are ongoing. The present study introduces the concept and some of its variations. It describes initial and ongoing research, and it presents propagation aspects of a future CubeSat mission to measure the height of oceans and ice areas and study the sea ice extend. Finally, the design of a L-band patch antenna array is presented that will be used to detect both the direct and the reflected GNSS signals.

摘要: A microstrip array antenna has been developed to achieve a high-gain antenna in millimeter-wave band. However, microstrip antennas suffer from high feeding-loss in high frequency band. Therefore, comb-line antenna with traveling-wave operation is applied. To reduce loss increasing due to manufacturing errors in millimeter-wave band and to realize an arbitrary linear polarization, we propose rounded radiating elements for comb-line antennas. The performance of its microstrip linear array with 45-degree polarization is evaluated by simulation in millimeter-wave band.
