  • Bandgap Engineered Polypyrrole-Polydopamine Hybrid with Intrinsic Raman and Photoacoustic Imaging Contrasts

    摘要: Intrinsically multimodal nanomaterials have revealed their great potential as a new class of contrast agents. We herein report a bandgap engineering strategy to develop an intrinsically Raman-photoacoustic (PA) active probe that is based on semiconducting conjugated polymers. This dual modal probe is prepared by doping a semiconducting conjugated polymer with polydopamine (PDA) through a one-pot reaction. When applied in the polypyrrole (PPy), this strategy can enhance Raman scattering and the PA amplitude of PPy-PDA hybrid by 3.2 and 2.4 times, respectively, so that both signals can be further applied in bioimaging. In the hybrid, such a dual-enhancement effect is achieved by infusing these two macromolecules at the nanoscale to reduce the optical bandgap energy. This work not only introduces a dual modal contrast agent but also provides a new method of manipulating semiconducting polymer’s inherent optical features for bioimaging.

  • Nanoparticulate photosensitizer decorated with hyaluronic acid for photodynamic/photothermal cancer targeting therapy

    摘要: Aim: A photomedicine consisting of a core for photothermal therapy, a photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy, and a cancer-targeting moiety was fabricated to improve photosensitizer selectivity and antitumor efficiency. Materials & methods: Hyaluronic acid-decorated polydopamine nanoparticles with conjugated chlorin e6 (HA–PDA–Ce6) were synthesized and characterized. Cell uptake, phototoxicity, penetration, distribution and therapeutic effects were evaluated. Results: HA–PDA–Ce6 had high photoactivities for photodynamic therapy/photothermal therapy and was readily internalized via CD44-mediated endocytosis. Enhanced accumulation and deeper penetration into tumors were achieved by the diffusion molecular retention tumor targeting effect following peritumoral injection. In the combination therapy, HA–PDA–Ce6 displayed the highest tumor growth inhibition in HCT-116 tumor-bearing mice. Conclusion: HA–PDA–Ce6 is promising for targeted colorectal cancer therapy.

  • Highly Sensitive and Selective Photoluminescence Detection of Copper Ions via <i>In Situ</i> Formation of Fluorescent Polydopamine

    摘要: Detection of heavy metals via ?uorescence has attracted increasing attention. Herein, we report a novel copper(II) ion (Cu2+) sensor using ?uorescent polydopamine (FPDA). Dopamine is easily oxidized to polydopamine by oxygen in alkaline solution, and oxidized polydopamine does not ?uoresce. However, under a nitrogen atmosphere, FPDA can be produced by adding hydrogen peroxide into a dopamine solution in the presence of Cu2+ ions. The ?uorescence intensity of FPDA is strongly dependent on the concentration of Cu2+ ions. At higher concentrations of Cu2+ ions, the photoluminescence intensity of FPDA also increases at a higher rate. FPDA exhibited a highly sensitive and selective response to Cu2+ ions over other ionic competitors in the biological milieu, achieving a detection limit as low as 1 nmol L?1 (nM). This study shows that the method can be used for monitoring in vivo Cu2+ ions owing to the distinct properties of FPDA such as strong ?uorescence signal and biocompatibility.

  • Polydopamine‐coated poly(vinylidene fluoride) membranes with high ultraviolet resistance and antifouling properties for a photocatalytic membrane reactor

    摘要: We modi?ed poly(vinylidene ?uoride) (PVDF) membranes with a polydopamine (PDA) coating for photocatalytic membrane reactor application with appropriate UV resistance and studied the effects of the PDA coating conditions (i.e., coating time and dopamine concentration) and UV irradiation time on the modi?ed PVDF membrane properties. The PVDF membrane that was surface-coated with the appropriate dopamine solution concentration and coating time played a key role in controlling the membrane properties and in protecting the modi?ed membrane against UV radiation. The optimization of the coating condition not only completely protected the modi?ed membrane from free-radical attack initiated through UV irradiation but also improved the membrane hydrophilicity, antifouling properties, ?ltration performance, and mechanical strength of the membrane. UV irradiation of the membrane that was surface-coated with a high-concentration dopamine solution for a long coating time resulted in a higher mechanical strength than that of the membrane without the application of UV irradiation.
