  • Multispectral imaging: Monitoring vulnerable people

    摘要: This paper describes the development of a new healthcare monitoring system for vulnerable people which uses a visible image sensor and passive infrared sensors, in an unconventional manner, to monitor daily living activities. It based on a novel method, using chromatic methodology, to process spatially and temporally the incoming multispectral data from the visible and infrared parts of the spectrum, to overcome the impact of noisy environments, illumination changes and a dynamic background. An efficient chromatic descriptor is suggested to improve activity recognition of vulnerable people. The new monitoring system is robust to distortions associated with healthcare systems and its descriptor has an improved quality of description. System performance was evaluated using a series of experimental data, the results showing the efficacy of using both spatial and temporal domains of multispectral data to deal with events that disturb monitoring systems. The chromatic descriptor achieved a better performance in comparison to traditional methods when describing daily living activities.

This paper describes the design of remote data acquisition system for solar plant using internet of things. The solar power plant monitoring will provide the real time data for net power, net/total energy and irradiance. This data will be helpful to take decision to schedule operation & maintenance activities & preventive maintenance.

    摘要: An adaptive controller for regulating and dimming problems of LED current control is developed in this article when the LED driving system is considered as a class of unknown nonlinear discrete-time systems. The controller is designed by a Fuzzy-rules emulated network (FREN) with direct human knowledge as IF-THEN rules of the controlled plant. The online learning algorithm is established to tune all adjustable parameters of FREN with the convergence analysis. The prototyping system is constructed by using Raspberry Pi model B as a main processing unit. Experimental results validate the satisfied performance for both current regulation and dimmer applications with positive and negative slopes.

  • Measurement of Global Solar Radiation data using Raspberry Pi and its estimation using Genetic Algorithm

    摘要: The demand for more efficient and environmentally benign, non-conventional sources of energy came into picture due to increasing demands for human comforts. Solar energy is now the ultimate option. In this paper, the instruments used to measure the solar radiation at Innovation Centre, MIT Manipal were connected to a Raspberry Pi to access the data remotely. Genetic Algorithms were formulated, so that the monthly mean global solar radiation in Manipal can be effectively estimated. Meteorological data such as humidity, temperature, wind speed, etc. were used as inputs to train the networks. A successful network was made between the data loggers and the Raspberry Pi. The data collected by the data loggers from the devices are transmitted to the Raspberry Pi which in turn sends the data to an internal server. The Raspberry Pi can be accessed using any SSH client such as PuTTY. The meteorological data was collected for the years 2010-2014 in order to formulate the Artificial Intelligence models. The validity of the formulated models were checked by comparing the measured data with the estimated data using tools such as RMSE, correlation coefficient, etc. The modelling of solar radiation using GA was carried out in GeneXpro tools version 5.0.

    摘要: In recent years, with the demand for better security, computers have played a large role. Due to their precision, large memory banks and high computing power, considerable development has been made in the area of face recognition. Computers now surpass humans in many face recognition tasks. A human being can remember limited number of faces. But a computer doesn’t have any limits, and can hence be used where large databases of facial records are needed. Such a facial recognition system has many potential applications including crowd and airport surveillance, private security and improved human-computer interaction. Such a system is perfectly suited to fix security issues and offer flexibility to smart house control. This project is aimed to be a complete system for face recognition: easy to build, cheap cost and effective. Main purpose is to be set as an alert for home visitors and provide information about the visitors in a dynamic website and phone application. It can also be used in other fields like industries, offices and even air-ports for identifying wanted people. Among the other bio-metric techniques, face recognition method offers one great advantage which is user friendliness.

    摘要: This paper presents a development of a low cost Human Drone Interaction (HDI) that is capable of taking images of scenes with people. Such a system will have many applications such as taking sel?e images securely and detecting humans in rescue operations. We designed a HDI environment working with NAVIO 2 which is compatible with raspberry pi. OpenCV libraries gave additional speed to the system instead of using other image processing methods. Dynamic adaptation and the photography parallax were the main areas that we considered during the air-time of the drone. We constructed the proposed drone with the minimal designing architecture without all the additional building parts. After the initial design, the system was tested for HDI environment in different scenarios. Based on the test results, HDI environments parameters, such as stabilization, image quality, and speed, were tuned up . The results were quite impressive, compatibility between NAVIO 2 and Raspberry pi made this system a powerful HDI environment.

  • Detection of eye strain through blink rate and sclera area using raspberry-pi

    摘要: In this paper, a unique approach is proposed to determine eye strain in children caused due to the prolonged exposure to LCD and PDP screens. Blink rate and area of eye sclera are the two efficient metrics relied upon to determine eye strain. Initially, blink rate is computed by monitoring state transitions from open to closed eyes. To segment the sclera region of the eye Otsu’s thresholding and colour tracking, were implemented. These approaches had limitations due to illumination and skin tone. To overcome this, Modified Otsu using Colour Tracking is proposed in this paper. The occurrence of eye strain is determined by comparing the values of the metrics derived in real time with a threshold. The proposed algorithm detects eye strain with an accuracy of 83%. After detection of fatigue an alert message is sent to caretakers.
