  • DESIGN AND REALIZATION OF CIRCULAR POLARIZED SIW SLOT ARRAY ANTENNA FOR CUBESAT INTERSATELLITE LINKS

    摘要: This paper presents the design and fabrication of an antenna based on Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) for intersatellite crosslinks in C-band. The entire antenna consists of two elements of SIW slots array that is fed by a hybrid 3 dB directional coupler. The entire SIW slots array antenna is circularly polarized (CP), and each element has four longitudinal slots. The element’s e?ective ?eld matching is realized with a microstrip to SIW transition. The antenna design has been evaluated with its return loss, gain plot, and radiation pattern characteristics to validate the fabricated antenna. The fabricated prototype antenna radiates a left-handed circularly polarized (LHCP) electromagnetic wave with the peak gain of 5 dB and o?ers approximately 2% AR bandwidth around 5 GHz.

  • NOVEL CIRCULARLY POLARIZED SIW CAVITY-BACKED ANTENNA WITH WIDE CP BEAMWIDTH BY USING DUAL ORTHOGONAL SLOT SPLIT RINGS

    摘要: A circularly polarized (CP) substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity-backed antenna based on dual concentric, orthogonal slot split ring resonators is proposed and experimentally studied. The circularly polarized wave is generated by two split ring-slots etched in the upper metal layer of the SIW cavity resonator. These two slots are excited by a coaxial probe located in the gap of the external slot split ring to radiate the right-handed circularly polarized (RHCP) wave. By rotating the dual split slot ring resonators and the probe by 45 degrees relative to the backed cavity, a better match characteristic and a slightly higher radiation gain are obtained. Because of the concentricity of radiant split ring slots, the beamwidth of the circular polarization is obviously increased. From the experimental results, the impedance bandwidth was 10.8% for the re?ection coe?cient less than ?10 dB, the axial ratio (AR) bandwidth was 1.54% for the AR less than 3 dB, and the RHCP gain was 4.44 dBic. Moreover, the 3-dB axial ratio beamwidth at the centre frequency of 10.40 GHz has been extended to 142? in the angular range from ?78? to +64?.

    摘要: This paper presents a substrate integrated waveguide Butler matrix with a modi?ed hybrid coupler, operating from 28 to 32 GHz. The modi?ed hybrid coupler is realized by using 90? hybrid coupler followed by a ?45? compensating phase shifter. Thus, 45?/135? output phase differences can be obtained using this type of coupler. Compared with the equal-length unequal-width phase shifter, the compensating phase shifter exhibits better phase characteristics, with only 3? phase error over 28–32 GHz. Because the phase of compensating phase shifter is not realized by taking the phase introduced by the crossover as a reference, it gives great ?exibility to the design of compensating phase shifter. Adopting the modi?ed hybrid coupler, the designed Butler matrix features the output phases with peak to peak error of 13? and wideband performance from 28 to 32 GHz. The slot array fed by the Butler matrix can radiate four slanted beams with acceptable measured gains, in the range of 9.7~12 dBi for port 1 excitation and 8.4~11.1 dBi for port 2 excitation. The radiated beams can reach a wide azimuthal coverage between ±61?.

  • Circularly Polarized SIW DRA Fed by Ridge Gap Waveguide for 60??GHz Communications

    摘要: A compact planar dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is designed based on the sub-strate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology for 60? GHz communications. The pro-posed? antenna is constructed from a multilayered dielectric substrate separated by metallic sheets. A dog-bone shaped DRA is formed by perforating the upper dielectric sub-strate?with air holes surrounding the dog-bone structure. The DRA?is surrounded by metal-lic vies connecting two metal sheets above and below the substrate containing the?DRA. The DRA is fed through a slot coupled microstrip?transmission line?printed below the slot. The ridge-gap waveguide technology?(RGW) is used in the feeding layer to suppress the surface wave?surrounding the microstrip transmission line and improve the peak gain. The RGW?unit-cell structure has stop-band of 46–95?GHz. The SIW DRA introduces imped-ance bandwidth from 59.4 to 60.4?GHz (1.67% referenced to 60 GHz)?with peak gain of 6.78 dBi. The circular polarization (CP) is achieved by the rotation of the dog-bone shaped DRA by 45°?with respect to the feeding slot. It produces left-hand CP with a bandwidth of 0.22?GHz?(0.36%). A 2 × 1 SIW-DRA elements are designed with sequential rotation and phases for CP bandwidth enhancement. The peak gain increases to 9.1?dBi, and a broad-band AR of 4.8?GHz (8%) is achieved. 2 × 2 SIW-DRA elements with 90° orientation rota-tion angle and phases of 0, 90°, 180°, and 270° are designed. An improvement in the peak gain of 11?dBi is produced with wide AR bandwidth of 10.8?GHz?(18% from 54.2 GHz to 65?GHz) for 60?GHz communications.

  • Field Distributions Analyzed of Substrate Integrate Waveguide (SIW)

    摘要: In this paper, the relationship of full-mode substrate integrated waveguide (SIW), half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW), quarter-mode substrate integrated waveguide (QMSIW) and eighth-mode substrate integrated waveguide (EMSIW) has been presented. Firstly, the characteristics of full-mode SIW were derived according to its field distribution and the equivalent relationship between the full-mode SIW and rectangular waveguide. And the parameters of the remaining three SIWs are obtained with the same method of the full-mode SIW. The analysis of these SIWs can provide a design guideline of microwave devices in application, especially in small size system.

  • Differentially-Fed Aperture-Coupled Magneto-Electric Dipole Antenna With Continuously Variable Beamwidth

    摘要: A beamwidth reconfigurable linear array antenna utilizing three magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna elements with no need for a complex feeding network is presented. In this design, the ME dipole antenna elements are differentially excited by three parallel transverse resonant slots etched on the broad wall of a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity. By symmetrically embedding four copper posts that are connected to varactor diodes between the adjacent slots, the electric field perturbation in the SIW cavity can be realized by manipulation of the varactors. In other words, altering bias voltage of all the varactors simultaneously could offer granular control over the excitation amplitude and phase of the antenna elements. Consequently, continuously variable beamwidth of the antenna can be obtained under electronic control. A fully operational prototype was designed, fabricated, and tested to validate the proposed design. Measured results indicate that the overlapped -10 dB impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 19.6% and the half-power beamwidth (HPBW) in the E-plane is capable of varying from 39° to 107° within the operating frequency band.

    摘要: Substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) horn is a good planar feeding structure for planar antennas and arrays. In this letter, a 18 printed log-periodic dipole array (LPDA) antenna fed by a compact SIW horn is presented. Some linear arrays of metal vias are embedded inside the SIW horn to correct the phase and amplitude distributions on the horn aperture. The measured gain of the proposed antenna is 9.61 dBi, the half power beam-width is 18.1, the FTBR is 17.55 dB, the cross polarization in the axis direction is 21.48 dB, and the side-lobe lever is -14.93 dB at 10 GHz. Good agreement between the simulated and the measured results is obtained.

  • SIW Based Leaky-Wave Antenna Supporting Wide Range of Beam Scanning through Broadside

    摘要: In this letter, a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) based leaky wave antenna with wide beam scanning is presented to mitigate open stopband (OSB). The unit cell of this proposed antenna consists of a longitudinal slot and a post placed oppositely offset from the center line. By introducing inductive post along with longitudinal slot in each unit cell, the open stopband is suppressed resulting continuous beam scanning. An equivalent circuit of the proposed unit cell is developed to explain impedance matching technique used here to suppress OSB. Dispersion diagram is also used to analyze this seamless scanning. This antenna can scan from -49° to +69° through broadside because of wide impedance matching. Finally, the antenna is prototyped and experimentally verified. Measured results are in accord with simulated results. This antenna provides maximum gain of 14.2dBi and low level of cross-polarization.

    摘要: In this paper, substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) compact antennas are presented as sensors to operate in the IEEE C-band. The main sensor is a SIW antenna designed at a frequency of 5.8 GHz for IEEE 802.11 WLAN application. The antenna has triangular patch and metallic vias along the edge thereby making it a conductive wall and hence a perfect electrical conductor (PEC) while absence of vias on the other side makes it a perfect magnetic conductive (PMC) wall. The antenna radiates linearly polarized wave corresponding to TM010 mode with a corresponding gain of 4.21dBi. The SIW designs are simulated using Arlon AD270 substrate as a dielectric and the simulated results have been obtained.

  • Compact Beam Scanning Flat Array Based on Substrate Integrated Waveguide

    摘要: A compact beam scanning flat antenna array with high gain based on the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is presented in this paper. The radiation elements are the continuous transverse stub (CTS) constructed by SIW, which are arrayed on the substrate. The SIW-CTS array has a 4 dB higher gain than the traditional CTS array with the metal parallel plate waveguide and is analyzed. A new compact the theoretical explanation corporate-feed network consisting of a SIW horn and a flat lens is also proposed. The flat lens could convert the cylindrical wave-front generated by the feed probe and the SIW-horn to a planar wave-front for feeding the CTS array. The Taylor distribution of the feed level made the array has a low sidelobe and high gain. The beam scanning of the array could be realized by simply moving the small SIW-horn along the line across the focal point. An 8-element array is designed, simulated and fabricated to verify the design. The measured results show that the scanning range is from -35° to 35° with the highest gain of being 20.6dBi and the side lobe level of -25.2dB at the broadside.
