摘要: This paper describes a software package for PJVS automated measurements written in Python, an interpreted programming language widely used in scientific applications. The code is modular and expandable with the support of many libraries allowing easy reconfiguration for different calibration and testing purposes.

Uncertainty analysis for ac–dc difference measurements with the AC Josephson voltage standard
摘要: A detailed analysis of the uncertainties obtained in ac–dc difference measurements with an AC Josephson voltage standard (ACJVS) is presented. For audio frequencies and for voltages less than 200 mV, ac–dc transfers with the ACJVS may reduce the combined uncertainty by factors of 2–10, compared with conventional methods based on thermal converters. Type A uncertainties are predominantly limited by the thermal transfer standard (TTS), or the digital voltmeter used to acquire the output voltage from the TTS. In agreement with earlier work, the transmission line is the primary contributor to Type B errors for frequencies above 10 kHz. A Monte Carlo sensitivity analysis is used to demonstrate how the uncertainties of transmission line impedance and on-chip inductance impact the accuracy of the rms amplitude conveyed to the TTS.

摘要: BIPM has conducted a few pilot studies to investigate the possibility of extending the protocol of the BIPM program of on-site DC Josephson Voltage Standard comparisons (BIPM.EM-K10.b) to AC voltages. On-site indirect comparisons have been performed for AC low frequency sinewaves, at 1 V and 6.5 V rms, using the new BIPM Programmable Josephson Voltage Standard and the differential sampling method. A relative agreement within a few parts in 107 can typically be achieved using a commercial calibrator as a transfer standard. The noise of the phase locking process appears to be the limiting factor. We have been investigating other AC generators as possible candidates for an accurate transfer standard.

摘要: We use a precision inductive voltage divider and a lock-in amplifier to extend the voltage range of a Josephson arbitrary waveform synthesizer with a maximum voltage of 250 mV rms to provide accurate voltage measurements up to 120 V. Experimental results show that the output of the JAWS can be extended to high voltages with uncertainties of a few microvolts per volt or less, depending on the voltage amplitude and frequency.

摘要: An upgraded pulse-driven AC Josephson voltage standard system at the National Research Council Canada allows the generation of quantum-accurate root-mean-square voltages up to 1 V at frequencies down to 10 Hz. The system is used to determine the AC-DC difference of a commercial thermal transfer standard, and an uncertainty budget is presented. Such quantum voltage systems could replace aging multi-junction thermal converters.

摘要: We use the Josephson arbitrary waveform synthesizer to provide traceability for the phase of the harmonics, relative to its fundamental, of a distorted waveform. For distorted waveforms with rms values in the range from 0.154 V to 0.2 V and harmonic magnitudes from 5% to 40 % of the fundamental, our system can generate odd harmonics up to the 39th with phase uncertainties from 0.002° to 0.010° (k=2.0), depending on the harmonic number and harmonic magnitude.

摘要: The impending redefinition of the International System of Units (SI) allows realization of the kilogram using electrical metrology. It can be shown that electrical metrology can also be used to scale mass using electrostatic forces. An approach to mass metrology at the milligram scale using an Electrostatic Force Balance (EFB) is described. The relative uncertainty in EFB mass measurements is found to be substantially lower than those obtained with the current method based on subdivision of the artifact kilogram.

摘要: Series arrays of overdamped Josephson junctions compose the basis of AC Josephson voltage standards. Presently, an advanced technology is based on Josephson junctions consisting of an NbxSi1-x barrier. Using junction stacks containing five Josephson junctions, series arrays of 15,000 junctions have been successfully fabricated at PTB for the pulse-driven Josephson Arbitrary Waveform Synthesizer (JAWS). The operation of eight arrays simultaneously enable spectrally pure waveforms with output voltages above 1 V to be synthesized.

摘要: The voltage error associated with the leakage current of programmable Josephson voltage standards (PJVS) is one of the largest contributions to the uncertainty in direct comparison of voltage standards. Due to the parallel biasing scheme of the PJVS and the resulting multiple leakage paths, the quantities “leakage resistance” and “leakage current” are not necessarily equivalent. A method to measure and model the leakage current to ground for a given PJVS output voltage is presented. By upgrading simple components of the NIST system, the leakage current to ground can be reduced from 250 pA to 50 pA at 10 V.
