X-ray imaging demonstration of glass GEM detector with dynamic time-over-threshold-based readout
摘要: Large-scale detection is one of the important roles for gaseous detectors to play in high-energy physics. In many cases, energy resolving multi-channel readout is required. Recent micro-pattern gaseous detectors (MPGDs) have finer pitches or pixels; hence, large-sized detectors have thousands of readout channels. In those cases, it becomes important to reduce the scale and complexity of the readout circuit while keeping its energy resolving capability. The signal processing technique called dynamic time-over-threshold (dynamic ToT, dToT) achieves both the good conversion linearity from analog to digital signal and the compact circuit scale compared with conventional analog-to-digital-converter (ADC)-based readout. In this study, we developed and demonstrated a dToT-based readout circuit for glass gas electron multiplier (glass GEM, G-GEM). The readout circuit showed better linearity than that of normal ToT. We demonstrated the readout circuit by X-ray imaging with the charge-division scheme. The good linearity of the readout circuit enabled imaging over a 100 × 100 mm2 area with small distortion. We expect that the dToT-based readout would be a promising candidate for the future readout of large-scaled MPGDs.

The LXe calorimeter and the pixelated timing counter in the MEG II experiment
摘要: The MEG experiment is to look for a lepton flavor violating μ + → e+γ decay with an unprecedented sensitivity, and we set an upper limit of the branching ratio for this decay, 5.7 × 10?13 at 90% C.L. in 2013 which is a twenty times more stringent limit than the previous experiment, MEGA. Since the sensitivity improvement was limited by the accidental background, we have considered the major detector upgrade. A proposal was submitted to PSI committee, and was approved in 2013, which aims at a sensitivity enhancement of one order of magnitude compared with the current MEG experiment. Here mainly two components of the MEG detector will be introduced, a γ-ray calorimeter with 900 L of liquid xenon (LXe), and a pixelated timing counter. The LXe detector will be improved by increasing the granularity at the incident face, by replacing the current PMTs with a larger number of smaller photosensors (MPPC) and optimizing the photosensor layout also on the lateral faces. A new highly segmented, fast timing counter array will replace the old system to allow improved timing resolution capabilities.

An Automated Galaxy Spectra Recognition Method Basing on Spectral Lines Information
摘要: For the vast amounts of spectra produced by LAMOST, the pipeline basing on PCAZ method is limited by the bad ?ux calibration and low S/N data. This work focuses on the study of the e?cient recognition methods of galaxy spectra of LAMOST basing on spectral lines information. The new method searches spectral lines and extracts the information of spectral lines (position, height, and width et al.) automatically. Using the spectral lines information which are less in?uenced by the quality of ?ux calibration and the S/N ratio, galaxy spectra are recognized with the redshift measured through spectral lines matching method. The experiment veri?ed it is feasible for the LAMOST galaxy spectra: the correct recognition rate > 80% for the data with SN R g > 5, and > 90% for the data with SN R r > 5. Compared with the redshift of SDSS, the systematic error of our method is 0, and the standard deviation of the error is 0.0002.

Initial evaluation of proportional scintillation in liquid Xenon for direct dark matter detection
摘要: The Liquid Xenon Time Projection Chamber (LXeTPC) is often seen as an ideal detector for the direct Dark Matter (DM) search. In such experiments an efficient γ-ray background discrimination is essential. This can be achieved by distinguishing the ionization density, different for γ-rays and Nuclear Recoils. Two quantities are used for this measurement, the direct scintillation light generated by the ionizing event, and the free charges swept away by an electric field before recombination occurs. Present LXe detectors apply the Dual Phase principle, i.e. the charges are extracted into the gas phase and are measured by the proportional light they produce in a strong electric field in the gas. With ever growing dimensions of the detectors it is difficult to meet the tight mechanical tolerances required. Proportional scintillation also occurs in the liquid phase, although at much higher field strengths. Such field strengths can be reached in the 1/r field close to thin wires. All the limitations due to the extraction of electrons into the gas phase are avoided. Since the liquid level has not to be crossed, the design of the detector becomes simpler with many advantages over Dual Phase detectors. Our initial tests clearly show the pulses. They are much shorter, and their length is limited by longitudinal diffusion of the drifting charges. The threshold for proportional light production seems significantly lower, and estimates of the gain are more favorable than previously predicted. We attribute these discrepancies to our improved liquid purity.

Effect of number of collectors (N) on the environment due to single slope solar desalination unit coupled with N identical evacuated tubular collectors
摘要: This research paper talks about the investigation of the effect of number of collectors on the environment due to single slope solar desalination unit (SSSDU) coupled with N identical evacuated tubular collectors (N-ETC). The analysis is observed for typical days of May and December for the atmospheric situation of New Delhi with the help of analytical program fed in MATLAB. The average daily energy output has been estimated followed by the evaluation of amount of carbon mitigated and enviroeconomic parameter for various values of N at selected value of flow of fluid mass per unit time. The input data required for the numerical computations have been taken from IMD, Pune, India. It has been observed that the value of environmental cost or enviroeconomic parameter increases with the raise in the value of N at selected value of fluid flow mass/unit time.

Effect of flow of fluid mass per unit time on life cycle conversion efficiency of single slope solar desalination unit coupled with N identical evacuated tubular collectors
摘要: Present work shows the ?ow effect of water mass per unit time (MFR) on the life cycle conversion ef?ciency (LCCE) of a single slope solar desalination unit (SSSDU) coupled with N identical evacuated tubular collectors (N-ETC). The analysis is observed for a typical days of May and December for the atmospheric situation of New Delhi with the help of analytical program fed in MATLAB. The input data required for the numerical computations have been taken from IMD, Pune, India. The average value of annual energy output has been computed based on the enegy outputs of summer and winter seasons followed by the evaluation of LCCE for the system. It has been concluded that the value of LCCE diminishes with the raise in the value of ?uid ?ow mass/ unit time and values of LCCE becomes almost constant beyond 0.044 kg/s at given values of water depth and number of collectors. It has also been observed that the value of LCCE has similar trends at other number of collectors.

New approach to raising the resolution of position sensitive detector with moving current-voltage characteristic
摘要: Position sensitive detectors (PSD) are widely applied for determining the coordinate of an optical signal and continuously tracking it. Currently, studies concerned with the possibility of further raising the spatial resolution of PSDs remain topical. In this paper, we present the results obtained in reaching an ultrahigh resolution for a device based on the PSD Multiscan with an integral operation principle which fundamentally differs from that of the lateral PSD. The PSD Multiscan design is based on an array of back-to-back photodiodes. Its optical signal coordinate read-out is formed via the moving current-voltage characteristic of the sensor directly on the PSD as an output potential proportional to the coordinate of the optical spot median. This measurement principle provides a continuous comparison of near-equal photocurrents, which maintains a high signal-to-noise ratio over the whole sensing area. The absence of computational operations in electronic circuits of the PSD Multiscan makes it possible to introduce a nonlinear amplifier element, which substantially improves the resolution of the device based on the sensor developed in the study (as good as 0.05 μm). It has been shown that the resolution remains high for detectors with different lengths and is independent of the position of the optical spot on the sensing area.

Characteristics of Si and SiC detectors at registration of Xe ions
摘要: The results of an investigation of silicon (Si) and silicon carbide (SiC) detectors when irradiated with a beam of Xenon (Xe) ions are presented. The irradiation was carried out at the IC-100 cyclotron, JINR, Dubna. The effect of the Pulse Height Defect (PHD) in registering Xe ions with energies 165, 82 and 45 MeV is shown to be twice as large for SiC detectors as that for Si detectors. It is also shown that degradation of SiC detectors irradiated with heavy Xe ions occurs at doses an order of magnitude greater than for Si detectors. The measurement method described, including continuous detector calibration by alpha-particles, makes it possible to simultaneously control the characteristics of detectors during irradiation and determine the energy of a beam of ions.

The use of optical fibers as passageways for the scintillation light produced in CaF <sub/>2</sub> (Eu) powder in water for low-level tritiated water measurement
摘要: A solid scintillation counting (SSC) system which uses the mixture of CaF2(Eu) powder and tritiated water inside the chamber room will be developed for the measurement of low-level tritiated water. However, the coincidence detection e?ciency and net count rate might be limited by the photon absorption in the chamber of the SSC detector. This paper discusses the feasibility of using light guide ?bers as the optical passageway in the chamber room by Geant4 simulation. The simulation results show that the performance of the detector can be improved by using wavelength-shifting ?bers as optical passageway in the chamber. The detector can maintain a 4.2% coincidence detection e?ciency at a 6 cm chamber thickness, and the detection limit can be as low as 0.47 Bq/mL under 10 min measurement. As a result, using wavelength-shifting ?bers as optical passageways in the chamber room of the SSC system is possible and e?ective.
