  • Efficient blue phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes based on exciplex and ultrathin Firpic sandwiched layer

    摘要: The high efficient blue phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (PHOLEDs) employing ultrathin Firpic layer sandwiched between electron donor mCP and electron acceptor TmPyPB layers were fabricated, and the dependence of the electroluminescence (EL) performance on the ultrathin Firpic layer thickness were investigated. It was found that the Firpic layer thickness imposed vital influence on the OLEDs EL efficiency and the one with the 0.3nm Firpic demonstrated the optimal power efficiency (PE) of 50 lm/w and the external quantum efficiency (EQE) close to 18%. The sandwiched ultrathin Firpic layer would not impede the formation of the exciplex between mCP and TmPyPB, and the balance between the exciplex formation and exciplex decaying showed strong dependence on Firpic layer thickness and imposed vital influence on the energy transfer, fluorescence and phosphorescence inside the emissive layer. There were three radiative decaying processes involved, i.e. the prompt and delayed fluorescence (PF and DF) of the exciplex as well as the phosphorescence (PH) of the Firpic, and the final EL relied on the competition of those processes. The optimal EL performance might be attributed to the combining benefits of the balanced PF, DF and PH decaying, alleviated Dexter-transfer-based triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA) and the triplets diffusion suppressed architecture.

  • Recent Advances in Conjugated TADF Polymer Featuring in Backbone-Donor/Pendant-Acceptor Structure: Material and Device Perspectives

    摘要: Along with the persistent research interest in organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display and lighting technology, a new studying topic is now focused on developing thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) polymer emitters, with the purpose to achieve high-performance cost-effective, solution-processed OLEDs (s-OLEDs) purely from fluorescent-type materials. However, research in this topic is in its infancy about the designing rules of polymer structures, photophysical mechanisms and the correlated devices. In this Personal Account, mainly from our personal experience we will shortly introduce the historical developments, status and perspectives about one representative kinds of TADF polymers, i. e. the conjugated TADF polymers featuring in backbone-donor/pendant-acceptor (BDPA) structure scaffold, which shows very promising electroluminescent (EL) performance even using simple s-OLED structure. Special attention is focused on illustrate the molecular designing & synthesis motivation, chemistry & device tactics towards solving the limiting factors about the quantum yields and aggregation-quenching tendency in solid states. Further challenges and strategies towards optimizing their overall EL performance, e. g. simultaneous achieving extremely high external quantum efficiency, power efficiency and low roll-off rate, are also discussed.

  • Self-assembling behavior of binary mixture of hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene derivatives with different molecular symmetry

    摘要: The self-assembly and mesophase behavior of a series of mixtures of hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene (HBC) derivatives carrying alkyl chains of different lengths at different positions and thus of different molecular symmetry (C1- and D3h-symmetry) were examined by powder X-ray diffractometry, UV-vis spectrometry, photoluminescence, polarizing optical microscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry. Significant reduction of isotropic phase transition temperature/clearing temperature was observed compare to single component symmetric analogues. The chain length modulates the mesophase behavior existed in the mixture. In particular, with long dodecyl groups, the mixture exhibited excimer/exciplex formation as well as aggregation induced emission phenomena in the non-polar solvent of hexane. Formation dynamics of intermolecular excimer/exciplex was studied by nuclear magnetic resonance and UV-vis spectroscopic method.

  • Production and Characterization of Vacuum Deposited Organic Light Emitting Diodes

    摘要: A method for producing simple and efficient thermally-activated delayed fluorescence organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on guest-host or exciplex donor-acceptor emitters is presented. With a step-by-step procedure, readers will be able to repeat and produce OLED devices based on simple organic emitters. A patterning procedure allowing the creation of personalized indium tin oxide (ITO) shape is shown. This is followed by the evaporation of all layers, encapsulation and characterization of each individual device. The end goal is to present a procedure that will give the opportunity to repeat the information presented in cited publication but also using different compounds and structures in order to prepare efficient OLEDs.
