  • Plasmonic cellulose textile fiber from waste paper for BPA sensing by SERS

    摘要: Flexible plasmonic Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates were fabricated using cellulose textile fibers, in which the textile fibers were recycled from waste paper in an eco-friendly way. The Glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride (GTAC) with positive charges was grafted onto the surface of the cellulose textile fibers through cationization. Plasmonic silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) with negative charges were decorated onto the cellulose textile fibers via electrostatic interactions. After cationization, the variation range of the diameter of the cellulose textile fibers was significantly increased because part of the cellulose was dissolved under alkaline condition, leading to more ‘hot spots’ for SERS during the shrinking process. The cellulose textile fiber-Ag NPs nanocomposite was employed for monitoring bisphenol A (BPA) in water and soft drink by SERS and the sensitivity of BPA detection achieved 50 ppb. The recovery values of BPA in soda water samples were from 96% to 105%. These results illustrate that the cellulose textile fiber-Ag NPs nanocomposite can be used as flexible, high sensitivity SERS substrates for detecting harmful ingredients in food or environment.

  • High-Resolution Laser-Induced Graphene. Flexible Electronics Beyond the Visible Limit.

    摘要: Laser-induced graphene (LIG) is a multifunctional graphene foam that is commonly direct-written with an infrared laser into a carbon-based precursor material. Here, a visible 405 nm laser is used to directly convert polyimide into LIG. This enabled the formation of LIG with a spatial resolution of ~ 12 μm and a thickness of < 5 μm. The spatial resolution enabled by the relatively smaller focused spot size of the 405 nm laser represents a > 60% reduction in LIG feature sizes reported in prior publications. This process occurs in situ in an SEM chamber, thus allowing direct observation of LIG formation. The reduced size of the LIG features enables the direct-write formation of flexible electronics which are not visible to the unaided eye. A humidity sensor is demonstrated which could detect human breath with a response time of 250 ms. With the growing interest in LIG for flexible electronics and sensors, finer features can greatly expand its utility.

  • Flexible and Degradable Multimodal Sensor Fabricated by Transferring Laser-Induced Porous Carbon on Starch Film

    摘要: Flexible sensors (FSs) hold great potential in wearable and intelligent equipment, but the preparation of degradable and multimodal FSs is urgently demanded, which may simplify the sensor matrix and reduce electronic waste. Here in this work, a multimodal and degradable FS was fabricated by transferring laser-induced porous carbon onto starch film. The obtained sensor showed three modes that can detect strain (with gauge factor (GF) = 134.2, response time of 130 ms, and stability >1000 times), temperature (25?90 °C), and pressure (0?250 kPa). The sensor can be used for monitoring human motions, detection of spatial pressure, and multiple stimuli. More importantly, the sensor was demonstrated to be degradable in water, suggesting it is a "green" electronic device being free of electronic pollution. This kind of multimodal and degradable FS may find wide applications in health and sports monitoring, flexible electronics, artificial intelligence, and so on.

  • Wireless Real-time Temperature Monitoring of Blood Packages: Silver Nanowires-embedded Flexible Temperature Sensor

    摘要: Real-time temperature monitoring of individual blood packages capable of wireless data transmission to ensure the safety of blood samples and minimize wastes has become a critical issue in recent years. In this work, we propose flexible temperature sensors using Ag nanowires (NWs) and a flexible colorless polyimide (CPI) film integrated with a wireless data transmission circuit. The unique design of the temperature sensors was achieved by patterning Ag NWs using a three-dimensional (3D) printed mold and embedding the patterned Ag NWs in the CPI film (p-Ag NWs/CPI film), which resulted in a flexible temperature sensor with electrical, mechanical, and temperature stability for applications in blood temperature monitoring. Indeed, a reliable resistance change of the p-Ag NWs/CPI film was observed in the temperature range of -20 °C to 20 °C with robust bending stability up to 5000 cycles at 5 mm bending radius. Real-time and wireless temperature monitoring using the p-Ag NWs/CPI film was demonstrated with the packages of rat blood. The result revealed that stable and consistent temperature monitoring of individual blood packages could be achieved in a blood box, which was mainly attributed to the conformal attachment of p-Ag NWs/CPI film to different packages in a blood container.

    摘要: Ultrasonic object detection in short distance could contribute the monitoring of human life activity and remote operation of home appliances. In this study, Ultrasonic sensor array using flexible electret elements were fabricated to detect objects in short distance. The reflection waves were clearly detected at short distance. The object (PVC pipe) detection was examined using the ultrasound generated by the ECS array. The estimated distance was good agreement with the true value though large errors were observed for the estimated angles because only three receivers were used for ECS array.
