  • Fluorophore-Induced Plasmonic Current: Generation-Based Detection of Singlet Oxygen

    摘要: In this work, we report the surface-based electrical detection of singlet oxygen using the emerging fluorophore-induced plasmonic current (PC) technique. By this method, we utilize the fluorescent “turn on” response of the well-known singlet oxygen sensor green (SOSG) singlet oxygen (1O2) fluorescent probe for the generation of fluorophore-induced PC in a silver nanoparticle film. To demonstrate the potential utility of this new technique, a photosensitizing molecule is used to generate 1O2 in a solution containing the SOSG probe. The resulting change in SOSG fluorescence quantum yield and extinction coefficient permits stronger energy transfer from the SOSG probe to a proximal silver nanoparticle island film located in the near-electric field of the probe. This yields an increase in the induced electric current flow, allowing for the detection of the 1O2 analyte. To the author’s knowledge, this represents the first detection of the reactive oxygen species 1O2 utilizing fluorophore-induced PC methodology and even broader electrical detection of 1O2. This is significant as it opens the possibility for 1O2 detection methods which do not require a traditional “photodetector” and associated optics, simplifying the instrumentation over existing fluorescence detection methods and potentially even lowering the cost.

  • Preparation of molecularly imprinted fluorescence sensor based on carbon quantum dots via precipitation polymerization for fluorescence detection of tetracycline

    摘要: A facile and effective method was proposed to prepare the molecularly imprinted fluorescence sensor with carbon quantum dots, which were modified vinyl groups by acrylic acid on the surface. The obtained fluorescence composite material was investigated by transmission electron microscope and Fourier transform infrared spectra. After the experimental conditions were optimized, a linear range of 1.0–60 μmol L?1 was obtained and the detection limit was 0.17 μmol L?1. The novel fluorescence sensor can be successfully used to detect tetracycline in real samples. This study provides a convenient strategy for selective recognition and rapid detection of tetracycline in the complex environment.

  • Self-agglomerated crystalline needles harnessing ESIPT and AIEE features for the ‘turn-on’ fluorescence detection of Al <sup>3+</sup> ions

    摘要: We report the synthesis of probe 2 for the fluorescence "turn-on" detection of Al3+ ions in CH3OH. Probe 2 has been designed via utilizing the aggregation-induced emission properties of the tetraphenylethylene unit, with further enhancement from Schiff base units for the ESIPT phenomenon. Probe 2 exhibits emission at 548 nm (lex = 360 nm), with a large Stokes shift of 188 nm, indicating the ESIPT phenomenon. Probe 2 also exhibits emission enhancement via increasing the H2O ratio up to 70–90% H2O/THF (v/v) and altering the spherical morphology to needle shapes. Probe 2 has been found to be highly selective and sensitive towards Al3+ ions over other metal ions in pure CH3OH using absorption and emission spectroscopy. FESEM analysis revealed that the size of probe 2 increases upon the addition of Al3+ ions. Thus, the fluorescence "turn-on" behaviour of probe 2(cid:2)Al3+ is due to metal-induced aggregation.

  • Rapid Quantitative Fluorescence Detection of Copper Ions with Disposable Microcapsule Arrays Utilizing Functional Nucleic Acid Strategy

    摘要: In this work, an economical and easy-to-use microcapsule array fabricated by ice printing technique has been realized for ultrasensitive fluorescence quantification of copper ions employing functional nucleic acid strategy. With ice printing, the detection reagents are sealed by polystyrene (PS) film isolation and photopolymer, which guarantees a stable and contamination-free environment for functional nucleic acid reaction. Our microcapsule arrays have shown long-term stability (20 days) under ?20 °C storage in frozen form before use. During the Cu2+ on-site detection, 1 μL sample is simply injected into the thawy microcapsule by a microliter syringe under room temperature, and after 20 minutes the fluorescence result can be obtained by an LED transilluminator. This method can realize the detection limit to 100 nM (100 fmol/μL) with high specificity.

  • Biosensing Using Arrays of Vertical Semiconductor Nanowires: Mechanosensing and Biomarker Detection

    摘要: Due to their high aspect ratio and increased surface to foot-print area, arrays of vertical semiconductor nanowires are used in numerous biological applications, such as cell transfection and biosensing. Here we focus on two specific, valuable biosensing approaches that, so far, have received relatively limited attention in terms of their potential capabilities: cellular mechanosensing and lightguiding-induced enhanced fluorescence detection. Although proposed a decade ago, these two applications for using vertical nanowire arrays have only very recently achieved significant breakthroughs, both in terms of understanding their fundamental phenomena, and in the ease of their implementation. We review the status of the field in these areas and describe significant findings and potential future directions.

  • Red-emissive nitrogen doped carbon quantum dots for highly selective and sensitive fluorescence detection of the alachlor herbicide in soil samples

    摘要: Red-emissive nitrogen doped carbon quantum dots (N-CQDs) were synthesized by a facile and efficient microwave-assisted hydrothermal treatment of p-phenylenediamine (p-PD), and then applied for the highly selective and sensitive fluorescence detection of the alachlor herbicide in soil samples. The synthesized N-CQDs exhibited strong red emission with a 27.6% quantum yield (QY) and high stability. Under the optimized experimental conditions, the as-prepared red-emissive N-CQDs were employed as a fluorescent probe to successfully detect trace alachlor, and their fluorescence presented a good linear decline with the increase of the alachlor concentration from 0.005 to 150 mM with a limit of detection of 0.2 nM. The N-CQDs as a fluorescent probe were used for the detection of alachlor in soil samples with satisfactory recoveries ranging from 86.6–114.3%, indicating that they were a promising fluorescent probe for highly selective and sensitive determination of alachlor.

  • Carbon quantum dots as a fluorophore for “inner filter effect” detection of metronidazole in pharmaceutical preparations

    摘要: With houttuynia cordata as carbon source, photoluminescent carbon quantum dots (CDs) were obtained via a one-step hydrothermal procedure. The absorption band of metronidazole (MNZ, maximum absorption wavelength at 319 nm) can well overlap with the excitation bands of CDs (maximum excitation wavelength at 320 nm). A fluorescent approach has been developed for detection of MNZ based on the inner filter effect (IFE), in which as-prepared CDs act as an IFE fluorophore and the MNZ as an IFE absorber. We have investigated the mechanism of quenching the fluorescence of CDs and found that the IFE leads to an exponential decay in fluorescence intensity of CDs with increasing concentration of MNZ, but showed a good linear relationship (R2 ? 0.9930) between ln(F0/F) with the concentration of MNZ in the range of 3.3 (cid:2) 10(cid:3)6 to 2.4 (cid:2) 10(cid:3)4 mol L(cid:3)1. Due to the absence of surface modification of the CDs or establishing any covalent linking between the absorber (MNZ) and the fluorophore (CDs), the developed method is simple, rapid, low-cost and less time-consuming. Meanwhile, it possesses a higher sensitivity, wider linear range, and satisfactory selectivity and has potential application for detection of MNZ in pharmaceutical preparations.

  • Molecularly imprinted polymer based hybrid structure SiO2@MPS-CdTe/CdS: A novel fluorescence probe for Hepatitis A Virus

    摘要: A novel designed fluorescence molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) probe made from CdTe/CdS quantum dot (QD)-based silica nanoparticles (SiO2@MPS-CdTe/CdS) was successfully created via a sol?gel process. The target virus - hepatitis A virus (HAV) was selectively captured by imprinted polymer layer, resulting in the fluorescence quenching of the QDs within 20 min, which could be explained by the energy transfer mechanism. Under optimized conditions, the limit of detection for the SiO2@MPS-CdTe/CdS MIP was as low as 88 pmol?L?1, and excellent linearity was obtained from 0.2 to 1.4 nM. Additionally, the nanosensor was successfully used to detect the HAV from a dilution of human serum, in which recoveries were in the range of 96.7%-103.8%. Overall, the current work proposes a novel and cost-effective method to synthesize SiO2@MPS-CdTe/CdS MIPs for use as a tool to rapidly and efficiently detect HAV, and it also provides promising perspectives to further advance virus imprinting research.

  • Ultrasensitive Fluorescence Detection of Peroxymonosulfate Based on a Sulfate Radical-Mediated Aromatic Hydroxylation

    摘要: Recently, peroxymonosulfate (PMS)-based advanced oxidation processes have exhibited broad application prospects in the field of environment. Accordingly, a simple, rapid and ultrasensitive method is highly desired for the specific recognition and accurate quantification of PMS in various aqueous solutions. In this work, SO4??-induced aromatic hydroxylation was explored, and based on that, for the first time, a novel fluorescence method was developed for the PMS determination using Co2+ as a PMS activator and benzoic acid (BA) as a chemical probe. Through a suite of spectral, chromatographic, and mass spectrometric analyses, SO4?? was proven to be the dominant radical species, and salicylic acid was identified as the fluorescent molecule. As a result, a whole radical chain reaction mechanism for the generation of salicylic acid in the BA/PMS/Co2+ system was proposed. This ?uorescence method possessed a rapid reaction equilibrium (< 1 min), an ultrahigh sensitivity (detection limit = 10 nM; quantification limit = 33 nM), an excellent specificity and a wide detection range (0–100 μM). Moreover, it performed well in the presence of possible interfering substances, including two other peroxides (i.e., peroxydisulfate and hydrogen peroxide), some common ions and organics. The detection results for real water samples further validated the practical utility of the developed fluorescence method. This work provides a new method for the specific recognition and sensitive determination of PMS in complex aqueous solutions.
