    摘要: Nanophotonics is a rapidly evolving field, exploring behaviour of light on the micro/nano scale and the interaction of micro/nano objects with light. The driving force for its development is the promise to go far beyond the conventional boundaries of photonics. Because of the diffraction limit, high-density regular optical components do not have the ability to confine light down to the microscale dimension. The footprint of devices becomes more critical for applications with limited physical space, such as on-chip silicon-based photonic devices. In this paper, a review of some of the most significant accomplishments in the field of stimulated Raman scattering in microstructures is reported. These findings indicate promising perspectives for integrated Raman lasers.

  • Recent Advances in Brillouin Optical Correlation-Domain Reflectometry

    摘要: Distributed ?ber-optic sensing based on Brillouin scattering has been extensively studied and many con?gurations have been developed so far. In this paper, we review the recent advances in Brillouin optical correlation-domain re?ectometry (BOCDR), which is known as a unique technique with intrinsic single-end accessibility, high spatial resolution, and cost ef?ciency. We brie?y discuss the advantages and disadvantages of BOCDR over other Brillouin-based distributed sensing techniques, and present the fundamental principle and properties of BOCDR with some special schemes for enhancing the performance. We also describe the recent development of a high-speed con?guration of BOCDR (slope-assisted BOCDR), which offers a beyond-nominal-resolution detectability. The paper is summarized with some future prospects.

  • Some structural, linear and nonlinear optical characteristics of single KDP crystals influenced by EDTA additive

    摘要: Single Potassium Dihydrogen Phosphates (KDP) crystals were successfully grown in pure and 1 mol% Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA) added KDP solutions by Sankaranarayanan–Ramasamy method. Their growth was oriented in type I phase-matching direction which is one of two conditions of maximum second harmonic generation efficiency. The elemental compositions of the crystals were determined by EDX analysis. The UV–Vis spectroscopy, FT-IR analysis, X-Ray diffraction, and second harmonic generation studies have been carried out in order to assess the influence of EDTA additive on quality of KDP crystal. EDTA can improve the structural perfection and optical characteristics of the crystal. Especially, this additive helps increase second harmonic generation efficiency of KDP crystal, which is very useful for frequency doublers.

  • Synthesis, ellipsometry and non-linear optical features of substituted 1,3,5-triphenylpyrazolines

    摘要: Ellipsometric and nonlinear optical properties of new, differently substituted, 1,3,5-triphenylpyrazolines dyes, were studied. Results of theoretical calculation within a framework of density functional theory (DFT) technique were verified by spectroscopic ellipsometry and optical second harmonic generation (SHG) experiment at fundamental laser wavelength 1064 nm. Absorption bands and complex refractive indices were determined. Principal role of 2-thienyl substituent for first order nonlinear optical properties was demonstrated.

  • Synthesis of Pyridazine Derivatives by Suzuki-Miyaura Cross-Coupling Reaction and Evaluation of Their Optical and Electronic Properties through Experimental and Theoretical Studies

    摘要: A series of π-conjugated molecules, based on pyridazine and thiophene heterocycles 3a–e, were synthesized using commercially, or readily available, coupling components, through a palladium catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction. The electron-deficient pyridazine heterocycle was functionalized by a thiophene electron-rich heterocycle at position six, and different (hetero)aromatic moieties (phenyl, thienyl, furanyl) were functionalized with electron acceptor groups at position three. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were carried out to obtain information on the conformation, electronic structure, electron distribution, dipolar moment, and molecular nonlinear response of the synthesized push-pull pyridazine derivatives. Hyper-Rayleigh scattering in 1,4-dioxane solutions, using a fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm, was used to evaluate their second-order nonlinear optical properties. The thienylpyridazine functionalized with the cyano-phenyl moiety exhibited the largest first hyperpolarizability (β = 175 × 10?30 esu, using the T convention) indicating its potential as a second harmonic generation (SHG) chromophore.

  • 302?W triple-frequency, single-mode, linearly polarized Yb-doped all-fiber amplifier

    摘要: Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) effect is currently the major limitation for the power scaling of single-frequency/narrow linewidth fiber laser systems. A single-mode linearly polarized all-fiber amplifier system is set up to investigate SBS effect in triple-frequency high-power amplifiers. With this amplifier, up to 302 W output power with 83% slope efficiency is achieved and the SBS threshold is scaled up to 12 dB. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest output power of multifrequency laser from a single-mode polarization maintaining fiber. Good spectral properties and high brightness make this laser source available for the application of second harmonic generation, coherent beam combining.

  • Nearly non-dispersive propagation of Pearceya??Gaussian pulses in optical fibers close to the zero dispersion point

    摘要: The propagation of Pearcey–Gaussian (PeG) pulses in optical fibers close to the zero-dispersion wavelength point is investigated. It is found an interesting phenomenon that the PeG pulses maintain the envelopes for a sufficient long propagation distance under the co-action of the second- and third-order dispersions of the fiber. This phenomenon is due to the asymmetric distribution of the pulse spectrum, which allows the contributions from the second- and third-order dispersions having opposite signs within the entire spectrum and canceling each other during propagation. This finding may become new candidates for optical fiber telecommunication.

  • Light control through a nonlinear lensing effect in a colloid of biosynthesized gold nanoparticles

    摘要: Biosynthesis of four samples of colloidal suspensions of gold nanoparticles is achieved using hydroalcoholic extract and three different separated compounds of the plant Bacopa procumbens. The nonlinear optical properties of each sample are characterized with the Z-scan technique. In all cases, the Z-scan curves indicate a negative or self-defocusing response, which is mainly attributed to thermal effects. Among the four samples, the hydroalcoholic extract was noted to have the highest nonlinear optical response and was selected to demonstrate the formation of self-collimated beams (SCBs). This kind of beams are obtained when a convergent CW laser, with only few tens of milliwatts of optical power, is introduced into the sample and induces a negative-lens effect that shifts the focal spot forward. As a result, the otherwise highly focused beam propagate with little divergence over lengths of up to 10 mm. Moreover, an SCB is capable of controlling and steering a weak probe beam of a different wavelength, since the probe experiences the lensing induced by the pump. Noteworthy, the response time of the material was found to be less than 0.07 s, which makes it a plausible candidate for photonic applications.

  • Transmission of Higher Order Solitons created by Optical Multiplexing

    摘要: The nonlinear Fourier transform (NFT) is a promising tool to linearize the inherently nonlinear optical fiber channel. The NFT transforms a time domain signal into the continuous and the discrete spectrum. The discrete spectrum is composed of an arbitrary number of complex valued discrete eigenvalues and their associated amplitudes. These discrete eigenvalues relate to solitons, which maintain their shape or return to it in an oscillating manner, while passing through the optical channel. Higher order solitons consisting of multiple eigenvalues are complex pulses, which are created and demodulated by sophisticated digital signal processing (DSP) leading to demanding hardware requirements. This paper shows a way to work with higher order solitons in a WDM like fashion by using optical-electrical signal processing and presents boundaries of this method. Optical-electrical signal processing decreases the required electrical and electro-optical hardware specifications substantially and enables to use a simplified DSP. The proposed creation method is subsequently employed to transmit higher order solitons consisting of five QPSK modulated eigenvalues. Furthermore, the optical-electrical processing is benchmarked against the Darboux transformation, which creates higher order solitons purely numerically. The results show that for a 5th order soliton transmission the proposed method can significantly reduce the hardware requirements and DSP complexity.
