摘要: This paper presents a 3-D printed flexible heterogeneous substrate for wearable antennas with customizable bandwidth and gain. These performance parameters are modified by varying the ratio of percentage area of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) to NinjaFlex. Five flexible 3-D printed microstrip patch antenna (MPA) prototypes are designed, realized and measured each with different percentage area ratios, where the MPA’s RF performance is characterized with curvature. The five substrate designs are based on a combination of rigid ABS tiles of triangular shape surrounded with flexible NinjaFlex. All five designs show minimal antenna sensitivity to curvature, with a minimum resonant frequency shift of less than 1.2%. Results closely agree with simulations. Increasing the ABS area increases the MPA’s gain, but reduces the bandwidth and increases substrate rigidity. This results in a highly customizable and cost-effective substrate that allows the antenna designer flexibility in the choice of design parameters.

摘要: A one-dimensional array configuration capable of providing 1800 coverage for future mm-Wave 5G communications is presented. The proposed antenna array consists of 16 antenna elements located at the bottom edge of the mobile phone chassis of which 8 antenna elements are dual-polarized, broadband, broadside capacitive loaded patch antennas and the other 8 elements are broadband end-fire modified Yagi-Uda antennas placed alternately. The array configuration and its performance are discussed. The antenna element and its working principle are also presented. The proposed antenna elements exhibit wide bandwidth, low-cost fabrication uniform radiation pattern and use technique. The antenna array achieves a minimum realized gain of 12.1 dBi throughout the 1800 sector making it suitable for implementation for 5G smartphone applications.

A dual-band circularly polarized microstrip patch antenna with a cross shaped slot for 0.92/2.45 GHz RFID applications
摘要: A double-band circularly polarized (CP) patch antenna is presented. It is a round patch antenna with a cross-shape slot. Furthermore, it radiates wide beam CP waves at two radio-frequency identification (RFID) bands: 920 MHz and 2.45 GHz. Slightly oblate round patch antennas generally radiate CP waves and have resonant frequencies at two or more harmonic bands. To radiate wide beam CP waves at two bands, a cross-shape slot was made on a round patch antenna in this study. As a result, the cross-shape slot has made it possible for a 920 MHz round patch antenna to simultaneously radiate wide beam CP waves at 2.45 GHz which is higher than a harmonic frequency.

摘要: In this paper, a low-profile dual-linear polarized patch antenna composed of two stacked substrates, one air gap layer, and one grounded substrate is proposed. There is a feeding patch element with two excited probes placed on the top side of the grounded substrate, and one parasitic patch element and a 2×2 parasitic array patch elements printed on the lower and upper stacked substrate, respectively. The T- and rectangular slots and T-stubs are employed on/near the orthogonal axis of the patches for the impedance matching and two orthogonal polarizations improvement. Furthermore, four stacked complementary split-ring resonators (CSRRs) are loaded in the two stacked substrates mainly to adjust the impedance matching and port isolation with an induced dual-polarized resonance. Thanks to the stacked patches and CSRRs, an enhanced impedance bandwidth from 1.2% to 7.4% was achieved by the introduced three additional dual-polarized resonances. Simulated results show the antenna has a impedance bandwidth across 2.362-2.544 GHz (fractional bandwidth 7.4%), a maximum realized gain of 10 dBi, and port isolation better than 22 dB over the operational bandwidth. In addition, a low profile of 0.048λ0 (where λ0 is the free-space wavelength at the central frequency) is maintained in the proposed antenna.

摘要: We present a glove-integrated slotted patch antenna for a wearable Ultra High Frequency Radio Identification Technology (UHF RFID) reader operating at 866 MHz. We tested the prototype antenna made of copper foil adhered on low-permittivity Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) foam material having the thickness of 4 mm. To characterize the antenna, we tested it wirelessly in communication with a common dipole type RFID tag to estimate its realized gain, radiation pattern and maximum tag read range it provides. We also analyzed the effects of variable separation between the antenna and the body to confirm stable operation required by the application. The results showed that the antenna feasible for the work glove applications providing the read range up to 360 cm with the reader’s output power of 28.4 dBm.

A Wideband Polarization-Reconfigurable Water Dielectric Resonator Antenna
摘要: A water dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with reconfiguration and broadband characteristics is presented. By injecting pure water into various cavities of the plexiglass holder, the antenna can be switched among left hand circular polarization (LHCP), right hand circular polarization (RHCP) and linear polarization (LP) in almost the same operating frequency range. With the high relative permittivity, water acts as a dielectric resonator as well as an interface similar to electric wall to form a broad axial ratio bandwidth. Thus a broad usable bandwidth is measured to be over 22%, and the measured radiation efficiency and realized gain centralize in 60%-70% and 3-4 dBi respectively.

摘要: This paper reviews three methods to generate orbital angular momentum (OAM) beams in microwave region. Circular patch array, Vivaldi connecting array and microstrip ring antenna are the potential candidates. The first two utilizes phased array technique, which needs complex feeding network, while the later method uses the higher modes of microstrip ring. Vortex OAM beams can be observed in all the methods.

77-GHz mmWave antenna array on liquid crystal polymer for automotive radar and RF front-end module
摘要: This paper introduces a low‐cost, high‐performance mmWave antenna array module at 77 GHz. Conventional waveguide transitions have been replaced by 3D CPW‐microstrip transitions which are much simpler to realize. They are compatible with low‐cost substrate fabrication processes, allowing easy integration of ICs in 3D multi‐chip modules. An antenna array is designed and implemented using multilayer coupled‐fed patch antenna technology. The proposed 16 × 16 array antenna has a fractional bandwidth of 8.4% (6.5 GHz) and a 23.6‐dBi realized gain at 77 GHz.

摘要: In this paper, a novel frequency reconfigurable coupling microstrip patch antenna is presented. A coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed line integrated on the ground plane is adopted in the structure to provide TM21 mode. Four PIN diodes are mounted on the patch gap to achieve frequency reconfiguration. By controlling the on-off state of PIN diodes electronically, resonant frequency points (5.75, 5.84, and 6.06 GHz) can be adjusted. What's more, a wide tunable range is achieved by loading more parasitic patch.

3-D Printing and CNC Machining Technologies for Exploration of Circularly Polarized Patch Antenna with Enhanced Gain
摘要: This paper presents a gain-enhanced circularly polarized (CP) patch antenna, where 3-D printing and computer numerical control (CNC) machining technologies are employed for the fabrication of its dielectric and metal parts, respectively. In order to assemble the whole structure effectively and accurately, a hybrid strategy and pin-loaded example are here proposed to deal with the detached dielectric and metal. On the one hand, asymmetrically 3-D printed substrate with mesh-grid architecture is formed with resin chunks to introduce perturbation and produce CP radiation. On the other hand, its metal part likewise possesses 3-D structure with four metal screws to be symmetrically placed in the two diagonals of square patch, thus making the patch and ground as a whole. More importantly, the screws have dual functions, which can not only integrate the dielectric and metal parts, but work as shorting pins. Therefore, due to the shunt inductive effect of shorting pins, the dominant mode of patch is excited at higher frequency, resulting in enlarged antenna area and enhanced gain. As a result, gain-enhanced CP patch antenna is realized, and an antenna prototype is then fabricated and tested, exhibiting a high CP gain about 10 dBic.
