Preparation and measurement of subwavelength bilayer metal wire grid polarizers on flexible plastic substrates
摘要: This paper presents a process for the fabrication of subwavelength bilayer metal wire grid polarizers and describes the performance characterization of polarizers that were produced using the proposed method. These polarizers have a period of 278 nm and were fabricated on flexible plastic substrates using nanoimprint lithography followed by an aluminum deposition process. Transmission efficiency in excess of 0.55 and an extinction ratio of more than 32 dB were achieved in the visible range when the aluminum layer thickness of the polarizer was 70 nm. When a polarization analyzer with a six-channel sensor prototype was tested, an average error of 0.2002? was obtained, with a maximum error of 1.105? and a standard deviation of 0.7255?. The proposed fabrication method will be suitable for many applications in optics, including the manufacture of compound eye structures.

Free-standing graphene oxide mid-infrared polarizers
摘要: Mid-infrared (MIR) represents crucial spectral region for applications in spectroscopy, sensing, imaging, security and industry screening, owing to the strong characteristic vibrational transitions of many important molecules. However, the current MIR compatible materials are fragile, hazardous, and costly, which hampers the performance of MIR devices. Here, we developed a versatile transmittance-based Kramers-Kronig method and obtained the optical properties of graphene oxide in the MIR region, unveiling its application potentials as a novel MIR compatible material. As an example, we demonstrated free-standing graphene oxide MIR polarizers with large extinction ratio (~ 20 dB) and controllable working wavelength up to 25 μm, by using the low-cost and flexible direct laser writing technique. Our transmittance-based KK method offers a versatile approach to obtain the optical properties of novel atomic-scale low-dimensional materials in the less developed MIR region and opens up opportunities in high performing functional MIR devices.

Self-Organized Conductive Gratings of Au Nanostripe Dimers Enable Tunable Plasmonic Activity
摘要: Plasmonic metasurfaces based on quasi-one-dimensional (1D) nanostripe arrays are homogeneously prepared over large-area substrates (cm2), exploiting a novel self-organized nanofabrication method. Glass templates are nanopatterned by ion beam-induced anisotropic nanoscale wrinkling, enabling the maskless con?nement of quasi-1D arrays of out-of-plane tilted gold nanostripes, behaving as transparent wire-grid polarizer nanoelectrodes. These templates enable the dichroic excitation of localized surface plasmon resonances, easily tunable over a broadband spectrum from the visible to the near- and mid-infrared, by tailoring the nanostripes’ shape and/or changing the illumination conditions. The controlled self-organized method allows the engineering of the nanoantennas’ morphology in the form of Au-SiO2-Au nanostripe dimers, which show hybridized plasmonic resonances with enhanced tunability. Under this condition, superior near-?eld ampli?cation is achievable for the excitation of the hybridized magnetic dipole mode, as pointed out by numerical simulations. The high e?ciency of these plasmonic nanoantennas, combined with the controlled tuning of the resonant response, opens a variety of applications for these cost-e?ective templates, ranging from biosensing and optical spectroscopies to high-resolution molecular imaging and nonlinear optics.

Design of polarizers with smooth grooves by the coordinate transformation method for ECH&CD system
摘要: We investigate design of polarizers with smooth grooves for the electron cyclotron heating system in this paper. The coordinate transformation method is used and the boundary condition of the polarizer changes for a grooved one to a plane. For a certain polarizer, the shape function of grooves is represented as a Fourier series which is useful for numerical calculation. Two sinusoidal grooved polarizers and two trapezoidal grooved polarizers are designed with the coordinate transformation method and tested with the low power test platform. The test results agree well with the numerical results. The method mentioned in this paper can be used as an optional one for the polarizer design with smooth grooves.

Design of a Compact 3D Metal Printed Ka-band Waveguide Polarizer
摘要: This letter presents design, development and characterization of compact wide band 3D printed circular waveguide based polarizer operating in Ka-band (28-34 GHz). The polarizer structure is investigated using fundamental and higher order modes and based on which a simplified equivalent structure is derived giving physical insight into its mechanism of operation. The design consists of a pair of radially opposite grooves inside a circular waveguide and excited using a coaxial probe which makes the design simple and highly compact as compared to other conventional circular polarizers. The design is compared with other existing waveguide based polarizers in terms of electrical and physical parameters. Fabrication is done using high resolution direct metal aluminum 3D metal printing. The measured axial ratio is better than 3 dB over the frequency band. The design simplicity makes it attractive for application in millimeter wave frequencies and beyond.

Flexible devices fabricated by plate-to-roll nanoimprint lithography system
摘要: Plate-to-roll nanoimprint lithography (P2RNIL) system has been developed to realize high speed, large scale and high resolution nanoimprint process. Imprinted patterns with line width less than 75nm at a speed of 22cm2/s on flexible substrate has been achieved. To improve the quality of the patterns imprinted on, we proposed a compliant mechanism which can realize passive alignment and minimize the lateral displacement between the template and substrate. Finite element analysis of this compliant mechanism was carried out. By using the P2RNIL system, wire-grid polarizers(up to 10030:1 extinction ratio and up to 88% transmittance) and transparent metal electrodes whose performance is in good accordance with simulated results were successfully fabricated.

摘要: Optical anisotropy played a crucial role in development of advanced optical systems. In this study, a novel multi-layer approach of high band-gap birefringent coatings was proposed and investigated. Zero-order thin film retarders and normal incidence polarizers based on all-silica nanostructures are fabricated by oblique angle deposition process. Low optical losses and the potential to withstand high laser fluence in nanosecond regime at 355 nm wavelength for both elements were demonstrated.

摘要: This manuscript reports the design of polarizers consisting of stacks of several meander-line gratings for axial-ratio enhancement. Analysis and design are carried out with analytical equivalent circuits that fully characterize periodic meander-line architectures. The advantage of using the analytical equivalent-circuit approach lies on its accuracy as well as in the better physical insight of the structure’s behavior provided by this approach. Extension to the case of oblique incidence is also carried out. Comparisons between results obtained by a commercial software and by the circuit model will evidence the good accuracy of the proposed approach.
