    摘要: One of the main vulnerabilities of GNSS receivers is their exposure to intentional or unintentional jamming signals, which could even cause service unavailability. Several alternatives to counteract these effects were proposed in the literature, being the most promising those based on multiple antenna architectures. This is specially the case for high-grade receivers used in applications requiring reliability and robustness. This article provides an overview of the possible receiver architectures encompassing antenna arrays and the associated signal processing techniques. Emphasis is also put on the most typical implementation issues found when dealing with such technology. A thorough survey is complemented with a set of experiments, including real data processing by a working prototype, which exemplifies the above ideas.

The proposed Spatial-EM algorithm utilizes median-based location and rank-based scatter estimators to replace sample mean and sample covariance matrix in each M step, hence enhancing stability and robustness of the algorithm. It is robust to outliers and initial values. Compared with many robust mixture learning methods, the Spatial-EM has the advantages of simplicity in implementation and statistical efficiency. We apply Spatial-EM to supervised and unsupervised learning scenarios. More specifically, robust clustering and outlier detection methods based on Spatial-EM have been proposed. We apply the outlier detection to taxonomic research on fish species novelty discovery. Two real datasets are used for clustering analysis. Compared with the regular EM and many other existing methods such as K-median, X-EM and SVM, our method demonstrates superior performance and high robustness.

  • Waveguide-input resonant tunnelling diode mixer for THz communications

    摘要: This paper considers a group of drogues whose objective is to estimate the physical parameters that determine the dynamics of ocean nonlinear internal waves. Internal waves are important in oceanography because, as they travel, they are capable of displacing small animals, such as plankton, larva, and ?sh. These waves are described by models that employ trigonometric functions parameterized by a set of constants such as amplitude, wavenumber, and temporal frequency. While underwater, individual drogues do not have access to absolute position information and only rely on inter-drogue measurements. Building on this data and the study of the drogue dynamics under the ?ow induced by the internal wave, we design two strategies, referred to as the Vanishing Derivative Method and the Passing Wave Method, that are able to determine the wavenumber and the speed ratio. Either of these strategies can be employed in the Parameter Determination Strategy to determine all the remaining wave parameters. We analyze the correctness of the proposed strategies and discuss their robustness against different sources of error. Simulations illustrate the algorithm performance under noisy measurements as well as the effect of different initial drogue con?gurations.

    摘要: Performance of automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems can significantly be improved by integrating further sources of information such as additional modalities, or acoustic channels, or acoustic models. Given the arising problem of information fusion, striking parallels to problems in digital communications are exhibited, where the discovery of the turbo codes by Berrou et al. was a groundbreaking innovation. In this paper, we show ways how to successfully apply the turbo principle to the domain of ASR and thereby provide solutions to the above-mentioned information fusion problem. The contribution of our work is fourfold: First, we review the turbo decoding forward-backward algorithm (FBA), giving detailed insights into turbo ASR, and providing a new interpretation and formulation of the so-called extrinsic information being passed between the recognizers. Second, we present a real-time capable turbo-decoding Viterbi algorithm suitable for practical information fusion and recognition tasks. Then we present simulation results for a multimodal example of information fusion. Finally, we prove the suitability of both our turbo FBA and turbo Viterbi algorithm also for a single-channel multimodel recognition task obtained by using two acoustic feature extraction methods. On a small vocabulary task (challenging, since spelling is included), our proposed turbo ASR approach outperforms even the best reference system on average over all SNR conditions and investigated noise types by a relative word error rate (WER) reduction of 22.4% (audio-visual task) and 18.2% (audio-only task), respectively.

    摘要: It is of significant importance for any classification and recognition system, which claims near or better than human performance to be immune to small perturbations in the dataset. Researchers found out that neural networks are not very robust to small perturbations and can easily be fooled to persistently misclassify by adding a particular class of noise in the test data. This, so-called adversarial noise severely deteriorates the performance of neural networks, which otherwise perform really well on unperturbed dataset. It has been recently proposed that neural networks can be made robust against adversarial noise by training them using the data corrupted with adversarial noise itself. Following this approach, in this paper, we propose a new mechanism to generate a powerful adversarial noise model based on K-support norm to train neural networks. We tested our approach on two benchmark datasets, namely the MNIST and STL-10, using muti-layer perceptron and convolutional neural networks. Experimental results demonstrate that neural networks trained with the proposed technique show significant improvement in robustness as compared to state-of-the-art techniques.

  • Analysis of Vibrational Circular Dichroism Spectra of Peptides: a Generalised Coupled Oscillator Approach of a Small Peptide Model Using VCDtools

    摘要: Vibrational Circular Dichroism (VCD) is one of the major spectroscopic tools to study peptides. Nevertheless, a full understanding of what determines the signs and intensities of VCD bands of these compounds in the amide I and amide II spectral regions is still far from complete. In the present work we study the origin of these VCD signals using the General Coupled Oscillator (GCO) analysis, a novel approach that has recently been developed. We apply this approach to the ForValNHMe model peptide in both α-helix and β-sheet configurations. We show that the intense VCD signals observed in the amide I and amide II spectral regions essentially have the same underlying mechanism, namely, the through-space coupling of electric dipoles. The crucial role played by intra-molecular hydrogen bonds in determining VCD intensities is also illustrated. Moreover, we find that contributions to the rotational strengths considered to be insignificant in standard VCD models may have sizable magnitudes and can thus not always be neglected. In addition, the VCD robustness of amide I and II modes has been investigated by monitoring the variation of the rotational strength and its contributing terms during linear transit scans and by performing calculations with different computational parameters. From these studies -and in particular the decomposition of the rotational strength made possible by the GCO analysis- it becomes clear that one should be cautious when employing measures of robustness as proposed previously.

  • A Fusion Firefly Algorithm with Simplified Propagation for Photovoltaic MPPT under Partial Shading Conditions
