  • Transition from Two-photon Absorption to Saturable Absorption in Gold Patterned Ruby Thin Film

    摘要: Nonlinear behaviour of gold micro disks patterned Ruby film has been investigated via Z-scan technique. Open Z-scan was performed for Ruby and Ruby/gold thin film using 532 nm Laser source. Two-photon absorption (TPA) and Saturable absorption (SA) have been observed in pure Ruby and Ruby/gold thin film respectively. The expression for normalized transmittance in open Z-scan was obtained by Gaussian decomposition method for fitting the open. The values for nonlinear absorption coefficient (β) for Ruby/gold (7.41 × 10?7??/??) was two orders of magnitude higher than that of Ruby (1.41 × 10?9??/??). Further, TPA and SA were confirmed by open Z-scan on these films, performed by 633 nm Laser source.

  • Fiber-reading radiation monitoring system using an optical fiber and red-emitting scintillator for ultra-high dose condition

    摘要: We have developed a remote scintillation detector using a CCD spectrometer and a red-emitting scintillator coupled with a 20-meters optical fiber for ultra-high-dose condition. Gamma-rays were detected with a conventional deep-red-emitting ruby scintillator and Cs2HfI6 which is a novel material with 700-nm red emission and a high light output. The scintillators were irradiated with gamma-rays from a 60Co source under the effective dose rate from ~0.002 to ~1 kSv/h. The integrated area of the Cs2HfI6 emission spectra was larger than that of the ruby, and the good linearity of Cs2HfI6 signal as a function of dose rate was confirmed.

  • Biophotonic pretreatment enhances the targeting of senile lentigines with a 694 nm QS‐ruby laser

    摘要: The ability of lasers to selectively destroy the melanin pigment responsible for solar/senile lentigines (SL) (age spots) without damaging the surrounding tissue makes laser therapy a preferred option for treating SL. However, laser therapies typically utilize a high energy output to achieve thermal ablation of their selective targets – and therefore can be associated with a period of recovery, healing and down time, depending on the modality. The Kleresca? biophotonic platform which generates fluorescent light energy (FLE), is a non-invasive form of photobiomodulation with multiple applications. FLE has clinical efficacy in treating inflammatory skin conditions such as acne vulgaris and rosacea, in addition to its healing and normalizing properties, rejuvenating the skin. It has previously been combined with other invasive treatment techniques; for example, following picosecond laser treatment of SL, where it enhanced the overall appearance of the skin. A common observation with the Kleresca? biophotonic platform is the transient emergence of underlying hyperpigmented spots. This case sought to investigate the use of the Kleresca? treatment to intensify and demask underlying SL prior to their targeting with laser therapy.

  • Cr3+ Doped Al2O3 Obtained by Non-Hydrolytic Sol-Gel Methodology

    摘要: This paper reports the synthesis and characterization of Cr3+-doped alumina by the sol-gel non-hydrolytic methodology. The resulting sample was treated at different temperatures. X-ray diffraction revealed that the ruby phase emerged in the sample treated at 1100 oC, which was later confirmed by absorption bands correspondent to Cr3+ ions allowed transitions at 4A2 → 4T1, 4T2, and forbidden at 4A2 → 2T1, 2E, observed by diffuse reflectance UV-Vis. The luminescence spectroscopy showed the intensity band at 694 nm in red region, characterized of the Cr3+ ion. The peaks at 702 and 705 nm correspond to N1 and N2 lines, respectively, which arose from the second and fourth nearest-neighbor exchange-coupled pairs of chromium(III) ion, respectively, ascribed to high chromium(III) concentration. The Cr3+ cluster formation was observed in electron paramagnetic resonance signal as discussed in this work. Nuclear magnetic resonance evidenced that the 27Al symmetry changed in the samples treated between 900 and 1100 oC.
