  • Machine learning assisted dual-channel carbon quantum dots-based fluorescence sensor array for detection of tetracyclines

    摘要: The detection and differentiation of tetracyclines (TCs) has received increasing attention due to the severe threat they pose to human health and the ecological balance. A dual-channel fluorescence sensor array based on two carbon quantum dots (CDs) was fabricated to distinguish between four TCs, including tetracycline (TC), oxytetracycline (OTC), doxycycline (DOX), and metacycline (MTC). A distinct fluorescence variation pattern (I/I0) was produced when CDs interacted with the four TCs. This pattern was analyzed by LDA and SVM. This was the first time that SVM was used for data processing of fluorescence sensor arrays. LDA and SVM showed that the array has the capacity for parallel and accurate determination of TCs at concentrations between 1.0 μM and 150 μM. In addition, the interference experiment using metal ions and antibiotics as possible coexisting interference substances proves that the sensor array has excellent selectivity and anti-interference ability. The array was also used for the accurate detection and identification of TCs in binary mixtures, and furthermore, the four TCs were successfully identified in river water and milk samples. Besides, the sensor array successfully identified the four TCs in 72 unknown samples with a 100% accuracy. The results proved that SVM can achieve the same accurate classification and prediction as LDA, and considering its additional advantages, it can be used as an optional supplementary method for data processing, thereby expanding the data processing field.

    摘要: This paper shows a broadband ultra-sensitive IR sensor with novel folded gold nanoantenna sensing array on CaF2 substrate integrated with microfluidic channel, which will allow, for the first time, continuous monitoring wideband finger print IR absorption of liquid and solution using enhancement of plasmonic nanoantenna. The broadband detection window we achieve is over 10 times larger than single nanorod antenna array, which pave the way to real-time fingerprint monitoring and various molecular recognition.

  • Enhanced Flexible Piezoelectric Sensor by the Integration of P(VDF-TrFE)/AgNWs Film With a-IGZO TFT

    摘要: Flexible pressure sensors are important components in future rollable touch screens, health care devices, electronic skins, and more. However, large-area array pressure sensors with small-size, good sensitivity and the ability of detecting high frequency dynamic force remain the key challenges for their practical applications. In this work, we proposed a novel flexible piezoelectric pressure sensor system combined with a P(VDF-TrFE)/AgNWs thin film and an a-IGZO TFT. The doping of AgNWs into the P(VDF-TrFE) can improve the piezoelectric performance of P(VDF-TrFE) without high voltage polarization and pressure stretching process, which are harmful to the performance of TFT. With the combination of the a-IGZO TFT, this pressure sensor can be arrayed 4×4 in an active-matrix design with a dynamic force detecting ability (a response of 1100mV/N), exhibiting good flexibility, fast response speed, high amplification, and lower energy consumption.

  • Gas Sensing Characterization of Single-Nanowire Sensor Array Systems Based on Non-Functionalized and Pt-Functionalized Tungsten Oxide

    摘要: Here we present the gas sensing characterization of single-nanowire sensor array systems based on either non-functionalized or Pt-functionalized single tungsten oxide nanowires towards various concentrations of nitrogen dioxide and ethanol. The sensor systems demonstrate stable and reproducible responses to the tested analytes, showing consistency with previous systems based on multiple-nanowire based films and validating the fabrication process of these devices.

  • Three-Dimensional Holographic Electromagnetic Imaging for Accessing Brain Stroke

    摘要: The authors recently developed a two-dimensional (2D) holographic electromagnetic induction imaging (HEI) for biomedical imaging applications. However, this method was unable to detect small inclusions accurately. For example, only one of two inclusions can be detected in the reconstructed image if the two inclusions were located at the same XY plane but in different Z-directions. This paper provides a theoretical framework of three-dimensional (3D) HEI to accurately and effectively detect inclusions embedded in a biological object. A numerical system, including a realistic head phantom, a 16-element excitation sensor array, a 16-element receiving sensor array, and image processing model has been developed to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method for detecting small stroke. The achieved 3D HEI images have been compared with 2D HEI images. Simulation results show that the 3D HEI method can accurately and effectively identify small inclusions even when two inclusions are located at the same XY plane but in different Z-directions. This preliminary study shows that the proposed method has the potential to develop a useful imaging tool for the diagnosis of neurological diseases and injuries in the future.

  • Strength in Numbers: Development of a Fluorescence Sensor Array for Secondary Structures of DNA

    摘要: High-throughput assessment of secondary structures adopted by DNA oligonucleotides is currently hampered by the lack of suitable biophysical methods. Fluorescent sensors hold great potential in this respect; however, the moderate selectivity that they display for one DNA conformation over the others constitutes a major drawback to the development of accurate assays. Moreover, the use of single sensors impedes a comprehensive classification of the tested sequences. Herein, we propose to overcome these limitations through the development of a fluorescence sensor array constituted by easily accessible, commercial dyes. Multivariate analysis of the emission data matrix produced by the array allows to explore the conformational preferences of DNA sequences of interest, either by calculating the probability of group membership in the six predefined structural categories (three G-quadruplex groups, double-stranded, and two groups of single-stranded forms), or by revealing their particular structural features. The assay enables rapid screening of synthetic DNA oligonucleotides in a 96-well plate format.

  • Colorimetric Sensor Array for Monitoring CO and Ethylene

    摘要: Developing miniaturized and inexpensive detectors remains an important and practical goal for field-deployable monitoring of toxic gases and other bioactive volatiles. CO (a common toxic pollutant) and ethylene (the phytohormone primarily responsible for fruit ripening) share the capability of strong back-π-bonding to low-oxidation-state metal ions, which has proved important in the development of metal-ion-based sensors for these gases. We report herein cumulative colorimetric sensor arrays based on Pd(II)-silica porous microsphere sensors and their application as an optoelectronic nose for rapid colorimetric quantification of airborne CO and ethylene. Quantitative analysis of two gases was obtained in the range of 0.5 to 50 ppm with detection limits at the sub-parts-per-million level (~0.4 ppm) after 2 min of exposure and ~0.2 ppm after 20 min (i.e., <0.5% of the permissible exposure limit for CO and <10% of the ethylene concentration needed for fruit ripening). We further validate that common potential interfering agents (e.g., changes in humidity or other similar air pollutants such as NOx, SO2, H2S, or acetylene) are not misidentified with CO or ethylene. Finally, the sensor is successfully used for the quantification of ethylene emitted from ripening bananas, demonstrating its potential applications in the monitoring of fruit ripening during storage.
