  • Smart lighting as basic building block of smart city: An energy performance comparative case study

    摘要: The aim of this work is to simulate and compare the energy savings potentially applicable to the consumption data of the Smart Street pilot system located at the ENEA Casaccia R.C. (Rome). The astronomical lighting system energy consumption (baseline) is compared to the simulation of a pre-defined regulation: it allows the lights dimming (and therefore a reduction of consumptions) based on a statistics average of the traffic flow rate, differentiated according to the day of the week. Then the baseline consumption is compared to the simulation of an adaptive configuration based on the traffic flow rate.

    摘要: Cloud and mobile computing domains have become quite popular these days. Besides, the ubiquitous smartphones are increasingly becoming a dominant platform for collaborative sensing, so we built an android application SmartMobiCam, which aids in forming the robust and scalable Smart city video surveillance system which is critical for upgrading the urban areas. The application obtains video feed, images and sound clips from the users and then uses cloud services for video enhancement and restoration of the content and provides it to all subscribers including police investigators. The application is explained with detailed architectural and technological choices. Performance analysis shows that the proposed application performs well and outperforms the traditional surveillance system.

    摘要: A novel method for pedestrian counting using passive infrared (PIR) sensors is proposed and the corresponding system has been designed and developed. The inclusion of an environmental combo sensor in the proposed pedestrian counting system enabled environmental monitoring such as temperature, humidity, pressure, Carbon di Oxide (CO2) and Total Volatile Organic Component (TVOC). The detection lengths of the PIR sensors are varied by tuning the Field of View (FoV) of the Fresnel lens to differentiate the movements of humans and animals. A novel method is applied to locate the PIR sensors in the designed mould so that their coverage regions do not overlap. The sensor data are transmitted to the Thingspeak server via Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) communication protocol. The system is powered by a 6000 mAh rechargeable battery which is charged by the solar panel during day time enabling continuous data collection. The system’s results are validated against manual counting and it is seen that more than 90% accuracy can be achieved by this intelligent system.

    摘要: District-wide real-time information sharing provides new opportunities to optimize infrastructures and, for example, the energy consumption of smart cities. However, information collection introduces new privacy threats that must be addressed. Existing anonymization solutions are not sufficient for the brokering of streaming real-time measurements. Advanced adversaries may utilize information available from different sources and correlation analyses to reveal a measurement’s actual source. We analyze security and privacy requirements and design a privacy-enhancing architecture for an information brokering platform. We propose an adaptive pseudonymization framework to make privacy attacks harder and to gain real-time awareness of the robustness of the privacy protection of platforms. Finally, we present an initial evaluation of the proposal using real-world energy consumption measurements.

  • A Multi-Agent Social Gamification Model to Guide Sustainable Urban Photovoltaic Panels Installation Policies

    摘要: The paper presents a holistic and quantitative model of social gami?cation in a smart city, which is likely to stimulate the photovoltaic panels installation. The coupling of multi-agent systems, GIS tools, demographic data, and a spatial knowledge base made it possible to develop and calibrate a computable model of social interaction in a “model smart city,” as well as to quantitatively evaluate the deployment of photovoltaic panels. It also enabled the analysis of factors a?ecting the e?ciency of this process, e.g., the photovoltaic potential of solar roofs, the ownership of buildings, the type of building development, the level of social trust, institutional and social incentives, and the development of an information society. The devised model is tested on the city of Warsaw, utilizing spatial and descriptive data provided by city authorities.

  • Global Warming - Causes, Impacts and Remedies || A Study on Assessment of Power Output by Integrating Wind Turbine and Photovoltaic Energy Sources with Futuristic Smart Buildings

    摘要: This chapter intends to propose a smart city for utilizing renewable energy sources as much as possible. For example, the city consists of many buildings and the buildings are thought to be an obstacle to natural wind flow. If the wind movements through building layouts are controlled, then there is possibility that the wind can be utilized for power generation through wind turbine. In addition, solar power can be utilized by installing solar panels on the roof and/or side wall of the buildings. The proper building design can help to utilize the available solar radiation for generating power and heat through solar energy systems. For designing a building in smart city, building dimensions and layouts are very important for effective utilization of wind speed and solar radiation. It has been observed that, there is very limited research and project works, which are investigating these issues. This chapter is providing study on large scale power generation by wind turbine and PV systems integrated with building and in the city. In this study, the horizontal axis wind turbine is considered for integrating with city infrastructure and the output of commercial horizontal axis wind turbine is much larger compared to that of the commercial vertical axis wind turbine. Additionally, the building integrated with PV systems is considered. The proposed schematic of smart buildings integrated with wind turbine and PV system is given in Figure 1.

  • Morphology-based visible-infrared image fusion framework for smart city

    摘要: Sparse representation-based approaches are often applied to image fusion. Owing to the difficulties of obtaining a complete and non-redundant dictionary, this paper proposes a hierarchical image fusion framework that applies layer-by-layer deep learning techniques to explore the detailed information of images and extract key information of images for dictionary learning. According to morphological similarities, this paper clusters source image patches into smooth, stochastic, and dominant orientation patch group. High-frequency and low-frequency components of three clustered image-patch groups are fused by max-L1 and L2-norm based weighted average fusion rule respectively. The fused low-frequency and high-frequency components are combined to obtain the final fusion results. The comparison experimentations confirm the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed image fusion solution.

    摘要: In the modern era of smart cities, devices are becoming much smarter, smaller, and energy-ef?cient. Modern devices are able to communicate and process with the adaptation of Internet of Things. Despite breakthrough in technologies, a majority of the power generated is utilized for outdoor illumination. Existing smart outdoor illumination methods are self-actuated by the onboard sensors in the luminaire leading to power savings. Investigation reveals the need of ef?cient illumination through the smart collaboration among luminaires. A centralized outdoor illuminating role assignment scheme is proposed to address the collaborative illumination between the heterogeneous luminaires. Simulations and comparisons were carried out on the proposed centralized scheme with the legacy approach and the self-actuated ZB-OLC assignment scheme. The paper concludes with the comparative analysis and simulation results of the effect of role assignment on various types of luminaires, overall power consumption and lifetime analysis of the luminaires with perspective to zones, duration, and neighboring luminaires.
