Ratio-Based Multitemporal SAR Images Denoising: RABASAR
摘要: In this paper, we propose a fast and efficient multitemporal despeckling method. The key idea of the proposed approach is the use of the ratio image, provided by the ratio between an image and the temporal mean of the stack. This ratio image is easier to denoise than a single image thanks to its improved stationarity. Besides, temporally stable thin structures are well preserved thanks to the multitemporal mean. The proposed approach can be divided into three steps: 1) estimation of a 'superimage' by temporal averaging and possibly spatial denoising; 2) denoising of the ratio between the noisy image of interest and the 'superimage'; and 3) computation of the denoised image by remultiplying the denoised ratio by the 'superimage.' Because of the improved spatial stationarity of the ratio images, denoising these ratio images with a speckle-reduction method is more effective than denoising images from the original multitemporal stack. The amount of data that is jointly processed is also reduced compared to other methods through the use of the 'superimage' that sums up the temporal stack. The comparison with several state-of-the-art reference methods shows better results numerically (peak signal-noise-ratio and structure similarity index) as well as visually on simulated and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) time series. The proposed ratio-based denoising framework successfully extends single-image SAR denoising methods to time series by exploiting the persistence of many geometrical structures.

Laser speckle reduction utilized by lens vibration for laser projection applications
摘要: In this paper, a compact speckle reduction method utilizing vibrating lenses for laser beam scanning is proposed and demonstrated. The maximum speckle reduction ef?ciency was found to be 75.6% and 81.25% for a 532 nm diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) laser and a 520 nm laser diode (LD), respectively. The minimum speckle contrast ratio observed using our method was 0.11 for the DPSS laser and 0.06 for the LD. The proposed method can provide speckle reduction with minimal power requirements, a low implementation cost, and no bending for the optical path of the laser beam. Additionally, this method is promising to withstand high-power lasers for use in high lumen laser projectors by optimizing the lens parameters. The demonstrated technique has a small form factor while simultaneously demonstrating a high degree of speckle reduction, which shows potential for speckle reduction in mini- and pico- laser projector applications.

Speckle reduction by employing two green lasers and two-dimensional vibration of lenses
摘要: A method of speckle reduction suitable for use in a laser projector was proposed in the paper. Speckle contrast ratio (SCR) reduction was achieved by combining wavelength diversity and angular diversity methods. First, wavelength diversity was demonstrated by the use of two green laser sources (a 520 nm laser diode (LD) and a 532 nm diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) laser) at a power ratio of 4:1. Second, angular diversity was achieved via the vibration of two lenses in two orthogonal directions placed directly after the laser source. The vibrating lenses are small and do not require changes to the beam path of the laser source, allowing for more compact projector designs. The frequency of vibration of these lenses was optimized to minimize the SCR in the output image. A SCR of less than 4% was achieved without the use of optical diffusers, which significantly reduces optical losses. Optical transmission could be further increased with the optimization of optical coatings on the lenses. This result shows great promise for applications such as laser pico-projectors within the realm of heads-up displays (HUDs) and mobile devices.

Speckle reduction with fast electrically tunable lens and holographic diffusers in a laser projector
摘要: We proposed a speckle reduction system in the laser pico-projector. The holographic diffusers and the fast electrically tunable lens (FET lens) were adopted in the method of the speckle reduction. This research focuses on speckle reduction by the different divergence angle of the holographic diffusers. Moreover, the speckle contrast value can be further reduced by the fast electrically tunable lens. Different divergence angle of the holographic diffuser provides the different angular diversity to compare the speckle reduction ability. We propose three experimental methods to explore speckle reduction. In experiment 1, we use a holographic diffuser and the FET lens. The speckle contrast value can be reduced to 0.08353. In experiment 2, the speckle contrast value can be reduced to 0.06403 under the balance between power consumption and speckle reduction. In experiment 3, we adjust different waveforms to get lower speckle contrast value. Finally, the speckle contrast value is 0.048 at 400Hz. That is lower than 0.05 successfully. That caused the speckle phenomenon is undetectable by human eye.

Laser Spatial Coherence Suppression With Refractive Optical Elements Toward the Improvement of Speckle Reduction by Light Pipes
摘要: We study laser speckle reduction by light pipes, and we propose a new method to improve its efficiency. Proof-of-concept refractive optical elements (ROEs) with a staircase-like structure are introduced before a holographic diffuser to split a laser beam into laser sub-beams. Optical paths of the laser sub-beams after transmitting through the ROEs are different, and these partially correlated (or uncorrelated) laser sub-beams are added in intensity basis because of the folded mirror reflections by the light pipe. Thus, laser spatial coherence is suppressed, which helps to reduce speckle. We demonstrate this method in a simplified laser projection system, where subjective speckle contrast is reduced from 0.33 to 0.24 before and after introducing a two-dimensional ROE, respectively. Comparing with other improved speckle reduction methods by light pipes, the proposed method is motionless and simpler.

摘要: For adaptive region-based despeckling methods, the shape of the adaptive region is of large influence on the estimation of the true value. In this paper, given the effectiveness of patch-based index on measuring the relativity of samples, an adaptive region is formed at each pixel via the patch-based index where the local geometric correlation (such as the anisotropy and the compactness) among the pixels in the patch is explored as an Adaptive Kernel (AK) function. Then, using all pixels contained in the adaptive region, Maximum likelihood rule is adopted to estimate the true value of the concerned pixel. From the experimental results on real and synthetic SAR images, by using the AK function embedded patchy index to determine the adaptive region, not only the speckle is largely reduced, but also the resolution of the details is well preserved by our method.
