    摘要: This paper describes the design of a substrate integrated suspended line (SISL) to substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) transition. This transition is broadband covering the frequency range of 24 - 34GHz. The simulated in-band insertion loss is below 2.5dB while the return loss is less than 20dB. In a back-to-back arrangement, the return loss reduces to 15 dB and insertion loss increases to 4.1 dB.

    摘要: In this paper, substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) compact antennas are presented as sensors to operate in the IEEE C-band. The main sensor is a SIW antenna designed at a frequency of 5.8 GHz for IEEE 802.11 WLAN application. The antenna has triangular patch and metallic vias along the edge thereby making it a conductive wall and hence a perfect electrical conductor (PEC) while absence of vias on the other side makes it a perfect magnetic conductive (PMC) wall. The antenna radiates linearly polarized wave corresponding to TM010 mode with a corresponding gain of 4.21dBi. The SIW designs are simulated using Arlon AD270 substrate as a dielectric and the simulated results have been obtained.

  • Compact Beam Scanning Flat Array Based on Substrate Integrated Waveguide

    摘要: A compact beam scanning flat antenna array with high gain based on the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is presented in this paper. The radiation elements are the continuous transverse stub (CTS) constructed by SIW, which are arrayed on the substrate. The SIW-CTS array has a 4 dB higher gain than the traditional CTS array with the metal parallel plate waveguide and is analyzed. A new compact the theoretical explanation corporate-feed network consisting of a SIW horn and a flat lens is also proposed. The flat lens could convert the cylindrical wave-front generated by the feed probe and the SIW-horn to a planar wave-front for feeding the CTS array. The Taylor distribution of the feed level made the array has a low sidelobe and high gain. The beam scanning of the array could be realized by simply moving the small SIW-horn along the line across the focal point. An 8-element array is designed, simulated and fabricated to verify the design. The measured results show that the scanning range is from -35° to 35° with the highest gain of being 20.6dBi and the side lobe level of -25.2dB at the broadside.

    摘要: This paper presents a substrate integrated waveguide Butler matrix with a modi?ed hybrid coupler, operating from 28 to 32 GHz. The modi?ed hybrid coupler is realized by using 90? hybrid coupler followed by a ?45? compensating phase shifter. Thus, 45?/135? output phase differences can be obtained using this type of coupler. Compared with the equal-length unequal-width phase shifter, the compensating phase shifter exhibits better phase characteristics, with only 3? phase error over 28–32 GHz. Because the phase of compensating phase shifter is not realized by taking the phase introduced by the crossover as a reference, it gives great ?exibility to the design of compensating phase shifter. Adopting the modi?ed hybrid coupler, the designed Butler matrix features the output phases with peak to peak error of 13? and wideband performance from 28 to 32 GHz. The slot array fed by the Butler matrix can radiate four slanted beams with acceptable measured gains, in the range of 9.7~12 dBi for port 1 excitation and 8.4~11.1 dBi for port 2 excitation. The radiated beams can reach a wide azimuthal coverage between ±61?.

  • Nose-Cone Conformal Substrate-Integrated Waveguide Slot Array Antenna for X-Band Radar Applications

    摘要: This paper presents the design of nose-cone conformal substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) slot array antenna for modern radar applications. Firstly, the wave propagation characteristics have been investigated in doubly curved SIW, and it has been observed that they are non-uniform along the longitudinal direction of nose-cone conformal SIW. To ensure the constant wave propagation along the length of conformal SIW, the conventional design of SIW is reformulated for nose-cone conformal SIW and circuit model modification has been demonstrated. Secondly, the procedure for designing a SIW-based array on curved surfaces has been developed. In the proposed design, rectangular waveguide (RWG) to SIW feeding structure has been used to avoid spurious radiations. Finally, 1 × 6 element-based nose-cone conformal slotted array has been designed and compared with planar and cylindrical conformal arrays. It has been observed from the results that the nose-cone conformal slot array offers low sidelobe levels (SLLs) and high gain. For the validation of the proposed design, the conformal slotted array has been fabricated and measured, which exhibited a reasonable agreement between the measured and the simulated data.

  • Center frequency and bandwidth switchable substrate integrated waveguide filters

    摘要: This paper presents center frequency and bandwidth switchable substrate integrated waveguide filters loaded with PIN diodes. The diodes are added in the slot on the surface of the resonators to switch the resonant frequencies and the coupling coefficients. Although the introduction of the slot causes extra radiation loss, it is small and acceptable. The proposed center frequency switchable filter has four center frequency switchable states of 1.78, 1.82, 1.88, and 1.91 GHz, while the bandwidth only changes ±0.64%. The bandwidth switchable filter has two states with 3 dB bandwidths of 70 and 103 MHz at a center frequency of 2.08/2.09 GHz. The measured performance of the fabricated filters shows good agreement with the simulation.

  • Dual-band substrate integrated waveguide dual-dumbbell-shaped-slot-fed patch antenna

    摘要: A dual-band low-profile substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) dual-dumbbell-shaped-slot-fed (DDSSF) patch antenna is presented in this letter. The antenna is designed using the dual-dumbbell-slot feeding structure in SIW and two patches to radiate. And it achieves two passbands by exciting two modes of dual dumbbell-shaped slots (DDSSs). The first impedance bandwidth is 4.1%, the second one is 10.0% and gains up to 6.7 dBi and 7.4 dBi, respectively. Furthermore, the two bands can be separated from each other and the cross-polarization level is below ?30 dB. The simulation and measurement results of the proposed antenna are in good agreements.

  • Design of a substrate integrated waveguide matrix amplifier

    摘要: Developments in microwave systems have increased the need for matrix amplifiers, which provide both high gain and wide frequency bands. The aim of this paper is to design a novel 2 (cid:2) 4 matrix amplifier with a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW)-based power divider and combiner and a microstrip gain equalizer in the X and low Ku frequency bands. The proposed amplifier can be easily integrated with any microstrip, rectangular waveguide, or SIW-based circuits. The analysis and design of the amplifier is performed using two full wave simulators with different computational techniques (finite element method and finite integration technique) to verify the results. Simulation results show that the amplifier provides 16 dB gain with less than 4 dB ripple and more than 10 dB of input and output return losses in the frequency band of 8–15 GHz. This amplifier can be used as a wide band and high gain block in many microwave applications.

  • Broadband Eight-Way Substrate Integrated Waveguide Radial Power Divider/Combiner With High-Isolation

    摘要: A broadband eight-way substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) radial power divider/combiner with high-isolation is presented. The step probes are utilized to achieve broadband impedance matching and improve the return loss. What’s more, the star structure based on microstrip circuit is employed to improve the isolation performance. A two-layer SIW radial power divider/combiner is designed, fabricated and measured. Good agreement between simulated and measured results is achieved for the proposed power divider/combiner. The measured results show that both bandwidths of the input and output port are 25% and 20% when their return loss are lower than -15 dB. The measured output isolation is greater than 17.5 dB from 5.75 GHz to 7.85 GHz and greater than 20 dB from 6.8 GHz to 7.9 GHz. The presented eight-way SIW power divider/combiner has the advantage of wider bandwidth, lower return loss and insertion loss, and higher isolation between the outputs.

  • Substrate Integrated Waveguide Multi-Channel Filtering Crossover With Extended Channel Number and Controllable Frequencies

    摘要: In this brief, substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) multi-channel filtering crossovers are proposed for two sets of intersecting signals operating at the same or different frequencies. The number of filtering channels in two directions can be independently extended. Square SIW cavities with TE102 and TE201 modes are used as building blocks. By properly arranging feeding ports and coupling regions, isolation between different channels is achieved and bandpass responses are integrated. The design procedure can be simplified as that of single-channel bandpass filter. For demonstration, a six- and a five-channel filtering crossovers with the same operating frequency in two directions are designed and fabricated. By etching a slot on the square SIW cavity, the TE102 and TE201 modes are split and thus the frequencies can be controlled. A four-channel filtering crossover with different operating frequencies in two directions is implemented for further verification. Compared to other multi-channel crossovers, the proposed designs feature good inter-channel isolation and intra-channel filtering responses with flexibly extended channel number and controllable frequencies.
