1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
A facile surface passivation strategy was developed to prepare polydopamine (PDA) coated BP quantum dots (QDs) through self-polymerization method.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Bulk black phosphorus was exfoliated in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) by ultrasound for 72 h.

Transmission Electron Microscopy (JEM-2100F, JEOL, Japan), X-ray powder diffractometer (D8 Discover, Bruker, Germany), UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer (Cary 60, Agilent Technologies, USA), laser granulometer (Zetasizer Nano S90, Malvern, UK), X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (ESCALAB 250Xi, Thermo Scientific, USA), Raman dispersive microspectrometer (InVia Reflex, Renishaw, UK).
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
BP QDs were prepared by exfoliating bulk BP in NMP, followed by centrifugation and ultrafiltration. BP@PDA was synthesized by self-polymerization of dopamine hydrochloride in the presence of BP QDs.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The stability, photothermal and photoacoustic properties of BP QDs and BP@PDA were characterized and compared.
