研究目的
Investigating the nonlinear generation of ultrafast, higher order vector vortex beams using single pass second harmonic generation (SHG).
研究成果
The study demonstrated the nonlinear generation of ultrafast vector vortex beams of orders up to 24 and power as high as 20 mW. The method can be used to generate vector vortex beams across the electromagnetic spectrum and at different time scales.
研究不足
The dependence of phase-matching of the parametric processes on the polarization of the interacting beams poses a major hindrance to the nonlinear generation of vector vortex beams.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The experiment involves generating vector vortex beams using single pass second harmonic generation (SHG) of ultrafast higher order vector vortex beams. A combination of spiral phase plates in a vortex doubler setup and a polarization Mach-Zehnder interferometer was used to generate vector vortex beams of orders up to |lp| = 12 in the pump.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
The pump vector vortex beams were focused at the center of the dual-crystal setup.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
The setup included half wave plates (HWP1-4), polarizing beam splitter cubes (PBS1-5), spiral phase plates (SPP1 and SPP2), quarter wave plates (QWP1-3), mirrors (M1-8), lenses (L1-2), a harmonic separator (S), and a charge coupled device (CCD). Two contiguous bismuth borate (BiBO) crystals were used for frequency doubling.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The orthogonal orientation of the optic axes of the two BIBO crystals allowed frequency doubling the orthogonal polarization components of the pump vector vortex beams in the respective crystals.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The polarization projection technique was used to verify the generation of vector vortex beams in the pump and second harmonic (SH).
