A SLM fiber laser based on multi-sub-cavities formed by a CFBG is successfully demonstrated, offering a simple multi-sub-cavities structure and wide wavelength tunable range. Experimental results show a tunable SLM fiber laser with a linewidth of less than 8.5 kHz and an SMSR of larger than 50 dB in the whole tuning range from 1535 to 1565 nm.

The fiber laser can maintain SLM operation in a relatively short time due to environmental disturbances. The stability could be improved by using polarization-maintaining fiber in the whole cavity.

The linewidth is measured using delayed self-heterodyne method, and the side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) is evaluated.
