The microwave photonic 1/n frequency divider has been successfully demonstrated, capable of realizing 1/2 and 1/3 frequency division for a 20 GHz input microwave signal, with improved phase noise performance. The divider can find applications in photonic-assisted microwave frequency synthesis for ultra-low phase microwave signal generation.

The operating frequency of the microwave photonic frequency divider is limited by the DPMZM bandwidth. The measurement bandwidth is limited to 17.5-20 GHz due to the bandwidth of the bandpass filter used in the experiment.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The system is implemented based on an optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) consisting mainly of a dual-parallel Mach Zehnder modulator for microwave signal modulation and an optical filter for sideband suppression.

A continuous-wave light from a laser source is launched into a dual-parallel Mach Zehnder modulator (DPMZM).

4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The microwave modulated optical signal is amplified by an EDFA, followed by an optical filter before detection at a photodetector. The electrical signal at the output of the PD is amplified by an LNA and fed back to MZM2 inside the DPMZM.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The phase noise of the generated signals is measured using an electrical spectrum analyzer.
