The reported comb-enabled multiheterodyne spectrometer with a tunable frequency range and a moderate single-shot bandwidth (>200 GHz) allows simultaneous detection of several 2ν3-band P-branch transitions of the H13CN gas. The system enables high-resolution (0.5 pm) spectral measurements within a few microseconds and thus may benefit a number of laboratory and field gas sensing applications.

The system's spectral bandwidth is limited by the detector and acquisition systems. The use of several cw lasers increases the cost and complexity of the system.
The experimental setup involves an erbium-doped fiber laser comb with a bandwidth of 16 THz (1500–1630 nm). The comb offset frequency and repetition frequency are stabilized against a 10 MHz rubidium oscillator. The comb is spectrally filtered and used to interrogate a sample, then combined with a multi-colour laser using a 50/50 beamsplitter. The multi-colour emission contains a few frequency modes produced by a spectrally filtered electro-optical modulator based laser system. The comb and EOM laser mix on a balanced detector, producing beating signals which are electronically amplified and then digitized by a fast oscilloscope. For retrieving the fiber comb spectrum, the recorded interferometric signals are zero-padded up to four-fold the number of digital samples and then Fourier transformed with triangular apodization.
