研究目的
To evaluate the thickness of the outer retinal layers and its relationship with visual function in fellow eyes of participants with unilateral neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
研究成果
The RPEtdrusen complex layer becomes thinner over time in fellow eyes of subjects with unilateral neovascular AMD. The rate of PRL outer segment thinning was higher in eyes with SDDs than in eyes without SDDs. These ?ndings are preliminary steps in the identi?cation of early biomarkers for detecting and monitoring the progression of AMD.
研究不足
All study participants had neovascular AMD in their nonstudy eye, representing a more homogenous study cohort. Only PRL outer segments and the RPEtdrusen complex were studied as part of outer retinal layer analysis. Not all subjects had 2 years of follow-up.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
Longitudinal study design with spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) volume scans collected every 6 months for 2 years. Manual segmentation of outer retinal layers was performed using 3D OCTOR software.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
105 subjects with unilateral neovascular AMD from 3 clinical centers in Europe.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Spectralis HRAtOCT (Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany), Topcon 50X digital color fundus camera (Topcon, Tokyo, Japan).
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
SD-OCT images obtained using a macular cube protocol of 37 B-scans. Detailed manual segmentation of outer retinal layers performed.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Thickness measurements for neurosensory retina, photoreceptor layer outer segments, RPEtdrusen complex, and choroidal layers obtained. Statistical analysis performed using SPSS statistical software.
