The developed algorithm effectively retrieves aerosol optical depth over the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region in autumn and winter, showing good correlation with ground-based measurements. However, errors can arise from changes in aerosol components' proportions and surface reflectance ratios. Future improvements include dynamic determination of SOOT aerosol percentage and seasonal reflectance ratios.

The algorithm assumes fixed proportions of aerosol components and a constant reflectance ratio between the red and 2.12 μm bands, which may not account for all variations in real-world conditions. The aging of MODIS sensor and lack of vegetation in autumn and winter pose challenges.
