Evaluating a new soft computing model called Gaussian process regression (GPR) on modeling the solar radiation exergy and total solar radiation (TSR) in Hakkari province, Turkey.

GPR model can be used for estimating the TSR and Ф by accepted error. The MAPE index for TSR and Ф factors was 1.51 and 7.02%, respectively. Correlation of determination (R2) index for TSR and Ф factor were evaluated to be 0.97 and 0.95 at test phase, respectively. GPR method can be reliably applied to estimate the exergy of solar radiation where meteorological data cannot be measured.

The study suggests using more than 70% of total data set for training the models for more accuracy. The standard deviation of MAPE and R2 for all data groups is not 0, indicating data sets have positive effects on fitted data by GPR.
