研究目的
To evaluate the effects of prostaglandin analogs with varying concentrations of benzalkonium chloride (BAC), preservative-free (PF), and alternative preservatives on mouse corneal tissue.
研究成果
Corneal damage, increased inflammation and apoptosis and low cell viability were observed in BAC-containing groups. PF or alternatively preserved glaucoma medications seem to be a reasonable and viable alternative to those preserved with BAC.
研究不足
The mouse-model study does not closely mimic clinical practice, and no in vivo or in vitro models can replace clinical assessment or reflect the real life of patients due to the vast variety of clinical situations.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study used a mouse model to evaluate the effects of various prostaglandin analogs with different preservatives on corneal tissue.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Thirty-five, 8- to 10-week-old female C57BL/6 mice were used, divided into seven groups.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Included normal saline, BAC, bimatoprost, latanoprost, travoprost, tafluprost, and various staining materials for histopathological examination.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Each group was treated with a specific eye drop once daily for 4 weeks, followed by corneal fluorescein staining, histopathological examination, and immunofluorescence staining.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Statistical comparisons were performed with SPSS ver. 11.0, using Mann-Whitney U-test for immunofluorescence-stained cell densities.
