  • Controllable Synthesis of One-dimensional MoO3/MoS2 Hybrid Composites with their Enhanced Efficient Electromagnetic Wave Absorption Properties

    摘要: One-dimensional MoO3/MoS2 hybrid composites were synthesized via hydrothermal synthesis; and the flexible MoO3/MoS2/PVDF nanocomposites were also controllable prepared by combining the composites with polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrix. The MoO3/MoS2/PVDF hybrids with low filler content (20 wt%) exhibited distinct microwave absorption properties in the range of 2 - 18 GHz. The minimum reflection loss can reach -38.5 dB at 8.7 GHz, and the reflection loss was less than -10 dB in the frequency range from 3.03 to 11.02 GHz with an absorber thickness of 2.0 - 5.0 mm. The MoO3/MoS2/PVDF nanocomposites exhibited better absorption properties than pure MoO3 and MoS2. The possible microwave absorbing mechanism was also discussed in detail.

  • Fractals in architecture: The visual interest, preference, and mood response to projected fractal light patterns in interior spaces

    摘要: The visual patterns of fractal stimuli on a computer screen and the brightness patterns of light projected onto room surfaces have independently been shown to influence human perceptual responses. It is not clear, however, what effect would result if the same fractal patterns were projected as light patterns on room surfaces. This paper reports on the results of three studies investigating visual interest, visual preference, and mood responses elicited by varying complexities of fractal light patterns projected on walls and floors of an interior space. The results suggest that fractal light patterns of medium to medium-high complexity (quantified by the fractal dimension D = 1.5–1.7) were significantly more visually interesting than other patterns. Crucially, viewing distance did not significantly influence visual interest or visual preference. Based on these studies, the use of medium to medium-high complexity fractal light patterns in interior spaces may be useful for enhancing occupants’ visual interest and mood.

  • Effect of temperature on digital images of speckle patterns generated by a metallic rough surface

    摘要: It is well known that roughness can be inferred from digital images of speckle patterns generated by illuminated rough surfaces, by analyzing parameters such as fractal dimension, lacunarity and correlation, to cite a few. In this article, we investigate the effect of temperature on the speckle pattern generated by the light scattered from a metallic rough surface. We show that fractal dimension is less sensitive to temperature changes than are lacunarity and correlation, and provide information about which method is more suitable for processing the speckle patterns produced by rough surfaces under temperature variation.

  • Resonance Coupling in Heterostructures Composed of Silicon Nanosphere and Monolayer WS <sub/>2</sub> : A Magnetic-Dipole-Mediated Energy Transfer Process

    摘要: Light?matter resonance coupling is a long-studied topic for both fundamental research and photonic and optoelectronic applications. Here we investigated the resonance coupling between the magnetic dipole mode of a dielectric nanosphere and 2D excitons in a monolayer semiconductor. By coating an individual silicon nanosphere with a monolayer of WS2, we theoretically demonstrated that, because of the strong energy transfer between the magnetic dipole mode of the nanosphere and the A-exciton in WS2, resonance coupling evidenced by anticrossing behavior in the scattering energy diagram was observed, with a mode splitting of 43 meV. In contrast to plexcitons, which involve plasmonic nanocavities, the resonance coupling in this all-dielectric heterostructure was insensitive to the spacing between the silicon nanosphere core and the WS2 shell. Additionally, the two split modes exhibited distinct light-scattering directionality. We further experimentally demonstrated the resonance coupling effect by depositing silicon nanospheres with different diameters onto a WS2 monolayer and collecting the scattering spectra of the resulting heterostructures under ambient conditions. We further demonstrated active control of the resonance coupling by temperature scanning. Our findings highlighted the potential of our all-dielectric heterostructure as a solid platform for studying strong light?matter interactions at the nanoscale.

  • Electrical contacts to two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides

    摘要: Two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) have attracted enormous interests as the novel channel materials for atomically thin transistors. Despite considerable progress in recent years, the transistor performance is largely limited by the excessive contact resistance at the source/drain interface. In this review, a summary of recent progress on improving electrical contact to TMDC transistors is presented. Several important strategies including topology of contacts, choice of metals and interface engineering are discussed.

  • Two-Dimensional Compressed Sensing Using Two-Dimensional Random Permutation for Image Encryption-then-Compression Applications

    摘要: Block compressed sensing with random permutation (BCS-RP) has been shown to be very effective for image Encryption-then-Compression (ETC) applications. However, in the BCS-RP scheme, the statistical information of the blocks is disclosed, because the encryption is conducted within each small block of the image. To solve this problem, a two-dimension compressed sensing (2DCS) with 2D random permutation (2DRP) strategy for image ETC applications is proposed in this letter, where the 2DRP strategy is used for encrypting the image and the 2DCS scheme is used for compressing the encrypted image. Compared with the BCS-RP scheme, the proposed approach has two benefits. Firstly, it offers better security. Secondly, it obtains a significant gain of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of the reconstructed-images.

  • Electrical characterization of single nanometer-wide Si fins in dense arrays

    摘要: This paper demonstrates the development of a methodology using the micro four-point probe (μ4PP) technique to electrically characterize single nanometer-wide fins arranged in dense arrays. We show that through the concept of carefully controlling the electrical contact formation process, the electrical measurement can be confined to one individual fin although the used measurement electrodes physically contact more than one fin. We demonstrate that we can precisely measure the resistance of individual ca. 20 nm wide fins and that we can correlate the measured variations in fin resistance with variations in their nanometric width. Due to the demonstrated high precision of the technique, this opens the prospect for the use of μ4PP in electrical critical dimension metrology.

    摘要: The matched correlation detector (MCD), combining the received data with the sound transfer function (namely the replica field) is theoretically optimal for underwater passive detection. However, it suffers from the model mismatch problem caused by environmental uncertainties. And furthermore, when applied to the deep-sea environment, it encounters the large search range problem. In this paper, we focus on the source detection problem in deep-sea environment. To overcome the disadvantages of MCD, we choose the modal space detector (MSD) which uses a vertical linear array (VLA). We derive the expression of the deep-sea MSD and further, to improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the test statistic, we propose a dimension-reduced form of MSD, which is termed as DR-MSD for short. By numerical simulation, we discuss that how source frequency, array depth and array aperture influence the dimension reduction. And we point out that the dimension-reduced number in DR-MSD decreases when the source frequency and the VLA aperture increase. The numerical results also indicate that DR-MSD can alleviate the search burden and obtain a better detection performance when compared to traditional MSD.

    摘要: Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) is defined as the accumulation of extracellular fluids in the macular region of the eye, caused by Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) that will lead to irreversible vision loss if left untreated. This paper presents the use of a pre-trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based model for the classification of Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (SD-OCT) images of Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) with feature reduction using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Bag of Words (BoW). The model is trained using SD-OCT dataset retrieved from the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) and is evaluated using an 8-fold cross validation at the slide level and two patient leave out at the volume level. For the volume level, an accuracy of 96.88% is obtained for data that was preprocessed.

  • Hierarchical Core-Shell Structure of 2D VS2@VC@N-Doped Carbon Sheets Decorated by Ultrafine Pd Nanoparticles: Assembled in 3D Rosette-like Array on Carbon Fiber Microelectrode for Electrochemical Sensing

    摘要: The development of two-dimension (2D) nanohybrid materials with heterogeneous component in nanoscale and three-dimension (3D) well-ordered assembly in microscale has been regarded as an effective way to improve their overall performances by synergistic coupling of the optimized structure and composition. In this work, we reported the design and synthesis of a new type of hierarchically core-shell structure of 2D VS2@VC@N-doped carbon (NC) sheets decorated by ultrafine Pd nanoparticles (PdNPs), which were vertically grown on carbon fiber (CF) and assembled into a unique 3D rosette-like array. The resultant VS2@VC@NC-PdNPs modified CF microelectrode integrated the structural and electrochemical properties of the heterogeneous hybridization of core-shell VS2@VC@NC-PdNPs sheets with unique rosette-like array structure, and gave rise to a significant improvement in terms of electron transfer ability, electrocatalytic activity, stability and biocompatibility. Under the optimized conditions, the VS2@VC@NC-PdNPs modified CF microelectrode demonstrated excellent electrochemical sensing performance towards biomarker hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) including high sensitivity of 152.7 μA cm-2 mM-1, low detection limit of 50 nM (a signal-to-noise ratio of 3:1), as well as good reproducibility and anti-interference ability, which could be used for real-time in situ electrochemical detection of H2O2 in live cancer cells and cancer tissue. The remarkable performances of the proposed nanohybrid microelectrode will have a profound impact on the design of diverse 2D layered materials as promising candidate for electrochemical biosensing applications.
