Passively Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at 1074.1 nm
摘要: We report a passively Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at 1074.1 nm based on an elaborate plane-plane cavity. By optimizing coatings of the cavity, the fierce parasitic transitions at 1064, 1112 and 1123 nm are suppressed, and the line at 1074 nm is individually amplified. The CW power of 1480 mW at 1074.1 nm is achieved at a pump power of 10.0 W. The single-wavelength line at 1074.1 nm in the passively Q-switched regime is obtained and produces stable pulses as short as 23.7 ns with peak power of 1584 W.

Reflections on the Er:YAG Laser Used in “Nonthermal Mode” to Rejuvenate Skin
摘要: CO2 and Er:YAG lasers are both actively used for laser skin rejuvenation, both ablative and microablative. Despite seeming similarities in efficiency of their radiation’s absorption by soft tissues, these lasers may have completely different effects on skin: tissue vaporization with CO2 laser radiation always assumes existence of areas with irreversible thermal effects such as coagulation, dehydration, carbonization, and vaporization. If Er:YAG and vaporization is used for the same purpose, same thermal damage areas may be obtained but smaller in size. However, in case of sufficiently high energy density and short duration of pulses, an ablation mode may be implemented, in the case in which areas of irreversible thermal changes are contained within vaporization zone. Thus, underlying layers of irradiated tissue are not thermally damaged.

Studies of the laser etching on painted plastic parts to prevent the risks of engraving failures at mechatronic devices
摘要: Nowadays, the automotive mechatronic devices are developed with many symbols engraved over the painted plastic parts. Many risks are coming due to painting layer, which could be dry or not, the paint thickness variability it is also one important aspect. The paper’s aim is to present the studies of the laser etching process and the risk reduction of the possible failure by using the 2D optical measurement of different parameters for the laser beam, also using the 3D scanning in order to see the deep etching of the paint. The experiments will let the team know what should be the parameter setting for the painted plastic materials delivered in production in different time after the painting, therefore to reduce the over-adjusting and first part approval process duration.

Effect of tungsten carbide partial dissolution on the microstructure evolution of a laser clad surface
摘要: Laser surface modification has been a way to promote wear resistance in dies and molds application. Previously, researchers have succeeded in enhancing surface properties through laser surface modification. The addition of particles in laser cladding process enhanced the surface properties by strengthening the modified AISI H13 tool steel structure. Controlled parameter was laser power, pulse repetition frequency (PRF) and scanning speed with a range of 1.7–2.5 kW, 30–70 Hz and 10.5–24.5 mm s?1 respectively. The powder addition executed by a preplaced method. The grain size and hardness properties of treated samples were characterized using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and hardness Vickers indenter respectively. Surface roughness was characterized using roughness tester. From the findings, tungsten carbide (WC) particles were dissolved homogenously within refined substrate grain structure at higher laser energy. Higher laser scanning speed contributed in uniform particles distribution. The grain refinement with W element in modified layer resulted in maximum hardness of 660 HV. Rapid solidification during laser processing produced metastable phase formation grain refinement, and a higher fraction of grain boundary which resulted in grain boundary strengthening, grain refinement and metastable phase formation. In this paper laser cladding of AISI H13 tool steel with micron size WC particles addition for enhanced surface properties was investigated. These findings are important to design high precision modification of die surface for high temperature forming process.

Low-cost multimode diode-pumped Tm:YAG and Tm:LuAG lasers
摘要: We report a continuous-wave operation of Tm:YAG and Tm:LuAG lasers pumped with a low-cost, multimode AlGaAs laser diode. First, the lifetime and the absorbance behavior of 5 mm, 6% Tm 3+ -doped YAG and LuAG crystals were thoroughly investigated. A low-cost multimode 3W laser diode at 781 nm was then used as a pump source for the Tm 3+ -doped laser systems. Using three different output couplers, up to 636 mW of output power was obtained from Tm:YAG laser, with a slope efficiency of 29% at 2017 nm. The maximum output power was 637 mW in the Tm:LuAG laser, with a slope efficiency of 28% at 2023 nm. The lasing performances showed a decreasing slope efficiency with an increasing level of output coupling, which leads to a high upconversion. Furthermore, using a birefringent filter in the resonators, the laser outputs were tuned from 1942 to 2086 nm in the Tm:YAG resonator and from 1931 to 2107 nm in the Tm:LuAG case.

Posterior capsule opacification and Nd:YAG laser rates with two hydrophobic acrylic single-piece IOLs
摘要: Objectives To evaluate the development of posterior capsule opacification (PCO) and Nd:YAG capsulotomy rates following implantation of two hydrophobic acrylic IOLs. Methods In a randomized, controlled trial, 80 patients with bilateral senile cataract were implanted with the hydrophobic acrylic single-piece intraocular Lenses (IOLs) EyeCee One in one eye and iMics1 in the other. Outcomes of 39 patients (78 eyes) were evaluated after 3 years. Automated Quantification of After-Cataract (AQUA; for PCO occurrence), visual acuity, anterior fibrosis, capsule?optic edge interaction and distance between anterior and posterior capsule IOL surface were analysed. Results After a mean follow-up of 38 ± 1.95 months, Nd:YAG capsulotomy occurred at a rate of 15.4% and 46.2% in the EyeCee One and iMics1 groups, respectively (p < 0.01). Respective mean PCO scores measured by AQUA were 1.57 ± 1.63 and 2.45 ± 1.44 (p = 0.019). A distinct gap between the anterior capsule and the IOL optic was present in 89% of eyes implanted with EyeCee One and 13% of iMics1 eyes. A gap between the posterior capsule and the posterior surface of the lens was observed in 76% of EyeCee One eyes and 35% of iMics1 eyes. Conclusions Study findings suggest that PCO and Nd:YAG capsulotomy rates are significantly lower in eyes implanted with the EyeCee One IOL compared to the iMics1 IOL. Optic sharpness and lens material seem to be the decisive factors, while the stepped edge beneath the haptic junction appeared to be ineffective.

Predictive Factors for the Efficacy of Er:YAG Laser Treatment of Urinary Incontinence
摘要: Predictive Factors for the Efficacy of Er:YAG Laser Treatment of Urinary Incontinence. Methods: Eighty-two patients with UI were treated by Er:YAG laser in this cohort study. The patients were evaluated by ICIQ-SF and KHQ-UI before and after the procedure. Improvement was categorized as: none (0-25%), mild (26-50%), moderate (51-75%), or high (76-100%). The duration of the treatment effect was evaluated at follow-up in relation to maximum improvement time (MIT) and total improvement time (TIT). Objectives: To determine the efficacy and predictive factors for the success of Er:YAG laser treatment in patients with urinary incontinence (UI). Results: Forty-two patients were determined to have SUI and 40 patients MUI. The mean ISIQ-SF and KHQ-UI scores significantly improved after the procedure (p<0.0001). The SUI patients responded to the laser treatment significantly better (p<0.008). Younger women had significantly better results (p<0.008), while premenopausal women (p<0.032) and women in the early postmenopausal years (p<0.032) also saw a positive response to the Er:YAG laser treatment. Women with a lower BMI had greater improvement (p<0.011). The total laser energy expenditure during the sessions may also be a predictive parameter for the success of Er:YAG laser treatment of UI (p=0.059). MIT and TIT were significantly longer among the patients in the high-improvement group. Conclusion: Er:YAG laser treatment of the symptoms of UI, especially SUI, is more efficacious and of longer duration for younger, premenopausal or early postmenopausal women with normal BMI.

A Refractive Index Sensor Based on a Fabry–Perot Interferometer Manufactured by NIR Laser Microdrilling and Electric Arc Fusion
摘要: In-line Fabry–Perot cavities manufactured by a new technique using electric arc fusion of NIR laser microdrilled optical fiber flat tips were studied herein for refractive index sensing. Sensors were produced by creating an initial hole on the tip of a standard single-mode telecommunication optical fiber using a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. Laser ablation and plasma formation processes created 5 to 10 micron cavities. Then, a standard splicing machine was used to fuse the microdrilled fiber with another one, thus creating cavities with lengths around 100 micrometers. This length has been proven to be necessary to obtain an interferometric signal with good fringe visibility when illuminating it in the C-band. Then, the sensing tip of the fiber, with the resulting air cavity, was submitted to several cleaves to enhance the signal and, therefore, its response as a sensor, with final lengths between tens of centimeters for the longest and hundreds of microns for the shortest. The experimental results were analyzed via two signal analysis techniques, fringe visibility and fast Fourier transform, for comparison purposes. In absolute values, the obtained sensitivities varied between 0.31 nm?1/RIU and about 8 nm?1/RIU using the latter method and between about 34 dB/RIU and 54 dB/RIU when analyzing the fringe visibility.

Surface roughness alterations of zirconia implants after Er:YAG laser irradiation: a preliminary study
摘要: Objective This study aimed to investigate the surface roughness parameters (Rp in μm) of zirconia implants (TAVDental) after erbium YAG (LiteTouchTM) laser irradiation. Material and methods Implants were randomized into two groups according to the laser irradiation parameters (1.5 W/10 Hz and 1.5 W/30 Hz). The surface topography of each implant was analyzed before and after laser irradiation using laser-scanning microscopy. The roughness values from three different areas (cervical, middle, and apical) of each implant were registered. Result Irrespective of the different laser settings and implant surface areas, both groups showed a significant reduced mean and peak surface roughness values after laser irradiation. However, no signs of thermal defects were observed. Conclusion Based on the conditions of this preliminary study, it can be concluded that the use of the Er, YAG (1.5 W, 10 and 30 Hz) is a safe tool for zirconia implant surface decontamination.

We report on the development of a 50W CW radially polarised Ho:YAG laser operating at 2090nm.
