  • Increasing Energy Capture from Partially Shaded PV String Using Differential Power Processing

    摘要: In PV strings based on series-connected PV modules, mismatches among the modules due to partial shading, will cause in power loss either due to series connection constraint or due to bypass diodes. This paper proposes a new distributed MPPT (DMPPT) scheme using multi-winding forward-based converter, acts as a current balancing differential power processing (DPP) converter. The converter is configured in the way that each converter port is connected in parallel with individual PV module to enable module-level maximum power extraction. The proposed architecture operates in two modes: local MPPT mode and current balancing mode. The new MPPs at module-level are tracked in local MPPT mode and then dispatched to start current balancing mode of operation. In the current balancing mode, this paper proposes a simple control approach to maximize output power from partially shaded PV string by maintaining an effective MPPT at module-levels and directly transferring the compensation currents toward the shaded modules from modules under normal conditions without any intermediary. The proposed DMPPT scheme is validated by simulation and experimental results. The results show that using the proposed scheme, the system efficiency is significantly improved compared to other existing topologies.

    摘要: Photovoltaic (PV) Systems are becoming vital for the existence of mankind nowadays. From bulk power generation to space exploration applications, PV systems finds an important role. To extract power from PV device it has to be operated at its Maximum Power Point(MPP) for which different MPPT algorithms are used. On a relative study of these different MPPT algorithms it is found that most of them suffers from certain problems such as highly oscillatory response and slow tracking time. Most of these algorithms uses both current and voltage sensors, this adds to the issue of reliability of such MPPTs. Here in this study, a Single voltage sensor based Adaptive MPPT is using different MPPT compared with MATLAB/SIMULINK simulations.

    摘要: Modular multilevel converters (MMC) are widely used in medium and high voltage transmission systems and in STATCOM applications for improving the power quality. In this paper, a modified configuration of MMC is considered to integrate a MW PV plant with the high voltage grid more likely at the transmission side of the power system. A string of PV panels is connected across each of the submodules (SMs) of the modular multilevel PV inverter (MMPI). In addition, two novel voltage-balancing techniques have been proposed to regulate the SM capacitor voltages of the MMPI at different maximum power point voltages. The first technique utilizes the concept of capacitor sorting based on their voltages. The proposed algorithm generates the switching states based on the voltages of the other SM capacitors and hence reduces the ripple in the capacitor voltage. In the second technique, a novel and simplified logic function based voltage balancing technique is developed. This technique is computationally efficient, reduces the ripple in capacitor voltage, eliminates the requirement of a look-up table and can be easily extended to an N-level MMPI. A three-level and seven-level MMPI is simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulated MMPI is tested under two scenarios for different temperature and irradiance conditions and various waveforms are showcased to ensure the efficacy of the proposed techniques.

  • Hybrid global maximum power point tracking algorithm under partial shading condition

    摘要: This paper presents a hybrid global maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm under partial shading conditions, which consists of five methods, including the global scanning method, the filtering method, the binary searching method, the three-point method, and the anti-restarting method. By making full use of the advantages of these methods, the proposed algorithm is able to improve tracking speed and efficiency, decrease oscillation, and avoid restarting. Among which, the global scanning method is used to find all the local intervals, the filtering method is used to reduce the search area, the binary searching method is used to reduce the search time, the three-point method is used to track the global maximum power point dynamically, and the anti-restarting method is used to prevent restarting the algorithm. To verify the proposed algorithm, experiments have been carried out in a standard environment, dynamic solar irradiation, and dynamic temperature, respectively. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified by comparing it with a perturb and observe (P&O) based global scanning MPPT method and a modified P&O with checking MPPT method using computer simulations.

  • A Comparative Topologies in Grid Connected Photo Voltaic System for Efficient Behavior

    摘要: The power delivered by a PV system consisting of one or more photovoltaic cells is dependent on the irradiance, temperature, and the current drawn from the cells. Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is used to obtain the maximum power from these systems. Grid-tied inverters are the key components of distributed generation system because of their function as an effective interface between renewable energy sources and utility. In this paper, Perturb and Observe (P&O) and Incremental Conductance (IC) MPPT controllers are modeled and comparison is carried out. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the use of transformer less inverter. The leakage current issues of transformer less inverter depends on the topology structure and modulation scheme, so it have to be addressed very carefully to meet the safety regulations. In order to eliminate the leakage current, OH5transformer less inverter topology is proposed and compared with switching inverter. The results concluded that using ICalgorithm the efficiency will improve comparatively. With the use of transformer less OH5 inverter along with ICalgorithm reduction in size and cost is observed. The improvement in efficiency with OH5 inverter is possible because of using five MOSFET switches. With usage of MOSFET switches switching losses and dead time is reduced. The leakage current is less in OH5 inverter compared to all other topologies proposed in reference. So isolation between grid and PV system is possible and safety of operating person is improved.

    摘要: The photovoltaic system is able to provide a maximum power to the load to a point of particular operation which is usually called as the maximum point of power (MPP); thus, it is important to use a maximum power point trackers (MPPT) to achieve the photovoltaic maximum power nevertheless the unsteady environmental conditions. The (P&O) algorithm has used to be a classical solution for the purpose of tracking the maximum power, however, there are several drawbacks in this technique such as it causes an oscillation nearby the maximum power point. To overcome the existing problems in the classical method a lot of researches have been done. This article provides an intelligent method to improve and optimize the performance of the maximum power point tracker associated with the PV array with the help of fuzzy logic technology, as well as compare its behavior by report has other techniques (P&O) used in the photovoltaic systems controls. The simulation results are developed under MATLAB/Simulink software. An extensive simulation have been done and compared with the traditional (P&O) technique under various climatic conditions to provide the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

    摘要: In this work, a hybrid solar-battery feeding system is proposed to achieve a constant output power on a fixed-wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-UAV. Firstly, a single and hybrid power source configurations for long endurance UAV applications are exposed. Thus, a solar-battery based feeding system with a suitable energy management is proposed. Furthermore, a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique is selected to achieve the maximum efficiency of the solar photovoltaic (PV) array. Besides, Sliding-Mode Control (SMC) is implemented on a cascade control scheme in order to achieve a suitable energy conversion. Finally, the hybrid feeding system performance is analyzed for different solar radiation and load profiles remarking proper dynamic and steady-state responses.

    摘要: The necessary for energy always increases every year, so it is necessary energy alternative to overcome the phenomenon. From some alternative energy that is currently widely developed is solar energy. Unfortunately the use of solar energy with the help of solar panels produces power that varies according to the irradiation received and the temperature on the solar panel. Irradiation is the emission of energy coming from the sun. This parameter causes the output power characteristic curve to be non-linear. And the power generated by PV has not reached the maximum power point. To overcome this problem requires an arrangement to find the maximum power point and make it stable at that point. Therefore, this paper proposes "Comparison of First Order Differential Algorithms, Perturb and Observe(P&O) and Newton Raphson Methods for PV Application in DC Microgrid Isolated System" so that the maximum power point can be achieved quickly and accurately. In this paper we tried to compare 3 methods of First-order Differential, P & O (Perturb and Observe) and Newton Raphson by using ZETA Converter as its object in switching settings. By using the simulation can be obtained the results of tracking speed and maximum power level. The results of the simulation show that error power the First-order Differential is 4%, P & O is 0.26389% and Newton Raphson is 0.45178%. It is evident that Raphson's newton algorithm is superior to speed and accuracy.

    摘要: This paper proposes a new global MPPT method for PV array under non-uniform insolation. The proposed method first tracks the knee point using I-V characteristic which is near to the local peak of the P-V curve. Then it compares the measured power at various knee points to find the region containing global peak. Finally, it uses P&O to find the exact global peak. Thus the proposed method avoids the use of P&O to track every local peak. The performance of the proposed algorithm is further verified in MATLAB/Simulink. The results show that the proposed method is able to track global peak of PV array during Partially Shaded Conditions.
