  • Modification of graphene oxide with titanium dioxide by alcoholic reduction

    摘要: Graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites doped with DEGUSSA (P25) was synthetized by (GO) alcoholic reduction at high temperatures, during the reduction the P25 anchored to the spaces left by carbonyls groups in the graphene network, this incorporation improved photocatalytic behavior by retarding the electro-hole pair (e? hC). Raman spectroscopy con?rms the anchorage, because the material with higher load of TiO2 presented a band at 1100 cm?1 belonging to Carbonate’s groups (CO3) and a total modi?cation of the bands D and G, also this material presents a band gap of 2.54 eV. The P25 incorporation into graphene three-dimensional arrangement is notorious in diffraction x ray patterns, because the graphene diffraction pattern shows a sharpened and smaller peak than the starting graphene oxide. The incorporation of TiO2 to graphene sheets, improved the band gap, which P25 being of 3.2 eV was reduced to almost 2.5 eV, naturally this allows it, to be an excellent material to be used as photoanodes, photovoltaic devices and photocatalysis, its demonstrated by a photodegradation of methylene blue at 60 ppm exposed to solar light and 25 ppm exposed to a sodium lamp that emits radiation close to 589 nm.

  • Co2+ Substituted ZnCuFe2O4 (0.0?≤?x?≤?0.5) Ferrites: Synthesis, Magneto-structural and Optical Properties for Their Photocatalytic Performance

    摘要: The cobalt (Co2+) has been successively substituted in ZnCuFe2O4 to obtain Zn0.5?xCoxCu0.5Fe2O4 (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5) ferrites by auto-combustion technique. Prior to photocatalytic degradation, all as-synthesized ferrites were characterized to study their structure, composition, morphology, magnetic and optical behavior. The shifting of tetrahedral as well as octahedral stretching peaks towards higher frequencies observed in the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy indicates that Co2+ ion is substituted in ZnCuFe2O4. X-ray diffraction pattern confirms the formation of single-phase cubic spinel with decrease in average lattice constant from 8.3915 to 8.3224 ? with increase in Co2+ substitution. The photocatalytic performance of obtained ferrite catalyst was determined using methylene blue (MB) as model dye under visible light and direct sunlight. The degradation of MB with as-obtained photocatalyst under sunlight improves (91%) which proves the effective utilization of visible light active magnetic photocatalyst.

  • Sensitization of TiO <sub/>2</sub> by the symmetric cationic polymethine dye for the photocatalytic reduction of methylene blue

    摘要: Using the spectral, electrochemical and energy transformation characteristics of the cationic polymethine dye (D) 2-[(1E)-1,3-butadienyl-]-1-(phenylmethyl)-benindolium borfluoride, it has been found that the dye can be applied as a highly efficient sensitizer of TiO2. An intensity of the initially narrow light adsorption band becomes wider and embraces practically entire visible and near IR zones as a result of application of the dye to the surface of TiO2. Due to this effect, a wider array of light quanta can potentially be involved in the photocatalytic transformations. Some new heterostructures (HS) of the type D/TiO2 have been developed and their photocatalytic activities were determined in the test reaction of reduction of methylene blue by formaldehyde for different dye contents and under various modes of irradiation. The schemes of the energy transformation initiated by the light with different wavelengths are proposed and discussed.

  • Development of Titanium Dioxide (TiO <sub/>2</sub> )-Embedded Buoyant Photocatalyst Balls Using Expanded Polystyrene

    摘要: A new immobilization technique of nanoscale TiO2 powders to expanded polystryrene (EPS) balls with temperature-controlled melting method was developed for mass production, and the characterization of TiO2 powder-embedded EPS (TiEPS) balls was evaluated. Based on the scanning electron microscope (SEM) images and associated energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis, the components of intact EPS balls are carbon and oxygen whereas those of TiEPS balls are carbon, oxygen, and titanium, indicating that TiO2 powders were embedded on the surface of EPS balls. As also evident by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and FTIR analyses, no significant changes in crystalline structure of TiO2 powders embedded on the EPS balls were found during the preparation and application processes of TiEPS balls. These characterization results indicated that the patches of TiO2 powders were soundly impregnated over the surface of EPS balls without the significant changes in crystalline structure of TiO2 powders and both structural changes and deformation of EPS polymer.

  • Enhanced Photocatalytic Degradation of Methylene Blue by Using Au-TiO<sub>2</sub>

    摘要: In this work, Au-TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized in a single step by flame spray pyrolysis (FSP) method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results indicated that phase structures of all samples TiO2 were the mixture of anatase and rutile phases. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) showed that dark spots of Au NPs deposited on larger TiO2 nanoparticles. HRTEM results indicated TiO2 NPs were average crystallite size in the range of 10–30 nm whereas the average diameter of Au NPs was about 5–10 nm. UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy technique showed peaks attributable of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) to Au NPs loaded on TiO2 in the wavelength of 500–630 nm. The Au-TiO2 NPs showed excellent photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under UV-Vis irradiation. It was found that 0.25 mol% Au-TiO2 which was a better photocatalyst than others under the same reaction conditions. The results showed that Au NPs-loading could effectively improve the photocatalytic activities of TiO2.

  • Significant Enhancement of the Visible Light Photocatalytic Properties in 3D BiFeO3/Graphene Composites

    摘要: Bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3, BFO) submicron cubes and 3D BFO/graphene composite materials were synthesized by a simple hydrothermal process. The crystallization processes of the 3D BFO/graphene composites with different graphene oxide (GO) concentrations were studied for their visible light photocatalytic properties. Compared to the single BFO submicron cubes, 3D BFO/graphene composites have greatly improved photocatalytic activity. A high photocatalytic performance is obtained at a GO concentration of 3 mg/mL, with the degradation rate of methylene blue (MB) dye reaching up to 92% in 140 min. The enhancement of photocatalytic activity can be attributed to the large specific surface area and 3D architecture of 3D composites, which provide more transport paths to effectively improve the separation rate of photo-generated electrons and holes. Therefore, 3D BFO/graphene composites have a broad prospect of application in the field of photocatalysis.

  • Enhancing Electron-hole Utilization of CdS Based on Cucurbiturils Vis Electrostatic Interaction in Visible Light

    摘要: We synthesized a novel CdS/Cucurbit[n]urils (CB[n], n=5-10) composites by a simple one-step process. The CdS/CB[5] photo-catalyst exhibits excellent performance. In this context, CdS/CB[5] were studied by different chemical characterization techniques including fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) techniques. FT-IR and XPS indicate that the caged carbonyl port of CB[5] achieves substantial separation of CdS electron-holes. Furthermore, the concentration of hydroxyl radicals was monitored by fluorescence spectroscopy, which confirmed that the Cucurbit[n]urils can effectively enhance the photocatalytic reaction. We have checked the regeneration efficiency of CdS/CB[5], which was still at its higher value even after four cycles of recycling testing. Moreover, a reliable photocatalytic mechanism supported by fluorescent probe for degrading MB aqueous solution in the CdS/CB[5] composite was also described. We anticipate that the study of the mechanism of temporary interaction with holes can have a great impact on photo-catalysis theory.

  • Effect of thermal oxidation temperatures on the phase evolution and photocatalytic property of tungsten-doped TiO <sub/>2</sub> thin film

    摘要: Tungsten-doped titanium dioxide (W-TiO2) thin films were successfully prepared on glass substrates by sputtering thermally oxidized W-doped titanium films in air. Tungsten-doped titanium films were deposited using a DC and RF magnetron cosputtering system. The effects of annealing treatment and W content on the W-TiO2 film microstructure were investigated. The crystalline structures, morphological features, and photocatalytic activity of the annealed W-TiO2 films were systematically studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The results indicated that annealing at 550 °C clearly induced the formation of an anatase and rutile phase mixture in the 5.5 at. % W-TiO2 films, which directly affected photocatalytic activity. The W-TiO2 films showed good photocatalytic activity under UV-light irradiation, with a higher rate of methylene blue dye degradation than in the case of undoped TiO2.

  • Structural, optical and photocatlytic properties of zinc oxide nanoparticles obtained by simple plant extract mediated synthesis

    摘要: We report a facile and inexpensive method to prepare zinc oxide nanoparticles with different particle size and shape using Achyranthes aspera and Couroupita guianensis leaf extracts as the reducing agent and zinc nitrate as a precursor. The prepared zinc oxide nanoparticles were analyzed by various characterization methods and obtained results evidently revealed that crystalline parameter, purity, optical absorption, band gap, particle size and shape of the ZnO nanoparticles significantly influenced by the type of leaf extract used as reducing agent. Further, photocatlytic activity study obviously demonstrates that prepared samples exhibits superior photocatlytic activity for the degradation of methylene blue dye by creating superoxide anion radicals and OH radicals under photonic irradiation. Hence, prepared zinc oxide nanoparticles by plant extract mediated synthesis can be applied as a photocatlyst for the possible waste water treatment in textile industry.

  • CuO/SiO2 modified amine functionalized reduced graphene oxide with enhanced photocatalytic and electrochemical properties

    摘要: Graphene, an ideal two dimensional material, has attracted much attention due to its unique structural and physico-chemical properties. Herein, we report synthesis of CuO/SiO2 modified amine functionalized reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and its excellent potentialities in environmental remediation and energy storage application. The structure, purity, functional groups and morphology of as-prepared CuO/SiO2:rGO nanocomposites were characterized by XRD, FTIR, FESEM and TEM. The catalytic activity of the CuO/SiO2:rGO in different ratios was evaluated by degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible light condition. The CuO/SiO2:rGO (mass ratio 1:3) exhibits high catalytic activity with 99% degradation of 20 ppm MB in 7 min. CuO/SiO2:rGO nanocomposites (1:3) also demonstrate good electrochemical performance with specific capacitance of 235 F g?1, which is about fivefold higher than CuO nanoparticles. The nanocomposite (1:3) also reveals excellent cycling stability at 4 A g?1 for 1000 cycles and the capacitance retention was found to be 95% after 1000 cycles. These results validate that the development of a new class of composite necessitates the proper loading of metal oxide and GO to be used for energy and environmental applications.
